The CPU Hog/Memory Leak issues that others described was the same for me. I've since disabled it (after isolating the problem) and we are back to normal. I'm using Thunderbird 9.0.1 (it happened in TB 8 too) / Google Contacts 0.6.40 on a 32bit Windows 7 machine.
