PIT Abuse Reporter is a lightweight and efficient Thunderbird add-on that helps you quickly report unsolicited or suspicious emails to the correct abuse contacts.
With a single click, the add-on generates a clean and standards-compliant abuse report:
• the original message is attached as a full .eml file
• all non-standard X-* headers are safely removed
• the raw headers are displayed in a readable format in the message body
• the correct abuse address for the sender’s domain is automatically detected
Smart DMARC-based abuse address detection
The add-on performs a DNS lookup of the sender’s domain using multiple resolvers (Google DNS and Cloudflare DNS) to extract the abuse reporting address from the domain’s DMARC record.
If no DMARC rua= or ruf= address is found, it automatically falls back to abuse@domain.
All DNS processing is done locally in Thunderbird and nothing is sent to any external service except the standard DNS query itself.
Fast, simple and safe
PIT Abuse Reporter does not modify messages, does not store data, and does not transmit any information outside Thunderbird.
The generated abuse email is opened as a new message in your composer window, allowing you to review or edit it before sending.
