My Reviews

DownThemAll!

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This extension is a MUST-HAVE! I have been using it for years and it's an integral part of Firefox for me.

The developer is working hard as we speak to release a Firefox 57 Quantum compatible version, and it should be available in the next few weeks.

Looking forward to it!

Stylish - Custom themes for any website

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've been using Stylish for many years with Firefox to customize the user interface itself. It was very convenient. Unfortunately since FF57 manipulating the user interface is no longer supported via add-ons (have to do it manually through userChrome.css). This is of course not the developer's fault and this is still a very good add-on for what it does, but no longer useful to me I'm afraid. This is why I gave it only 4/5 stars.

Scriptish

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Scriptish was great and I used it for quite a long time, but sadly it seems to have been abandoned by the developers (no updates in over a year), and now with the new FF30 scripts don't work properly anymore when using Scriptish. Use Greasmonkey folks!

Facebook Seen Notification Remover

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The problem with this extension is that it also blocks the marking of messages as "read". So as long as it's on, messages in the inbox will forever be marked as "unread" which is really annoying. Of course in order to apply the "read" status, you can disable the add-on temporarily, click on the messages, then re-enable it, but that's very time consuming having to go to the add-ons manager every time etc.

A tool bar button for turning it on/off would save a lot of time in that case!

EDIT:
The developer now added an on/off button, making this the first extension of its kind for Firefox to finally offer this feature! I therefor updated my Rating from 4-stars to 5-stars! Very nice, thank you!

My only criticism is that the button *icon* is not very stylish. It has non-transparent white background, and the icon itself is too small. So maybe if in the future you could address that as well it would improve the add-on even more! :)

Scriptish

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have to admit, I'm usually a devout adherent to the old adage of: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". So if you're anything like me, naturally you're a little apprehensive about trying this one out as it's basically an alternative to Greasemonkey which you've probably used for YEARS without any problems!

So is it really worth it?

Well, all I can say is that the transition is very seamless, as they work pretty much the same way in terms of the user-experience. I really like however the added settings this add-on provides over Greasemonkey, like caching the scripts in memory for faster performance (which I don't really know if it makes that much of a difference, but still it's nice to have), added security settings, and just overall extended settings which are simply not available at all in Greasemonkey. It also features a built in editor which I found to be very nice and convenient!

The bottom line is that this is a better more optimized version of Greasemonkey, and yet works in much the same way so there's no learning curve here if you're making the switch. As a programmer myself who values such things, knowing that I'm using a more efficient optimized add-on is very satisfying.

PROS:
- No learning curve over Greasemonkey. Transition is very seamless, and works very much the same way.
- Extended settings (including security, script caching etc.) which are not available at all in Greasemonkey.
- Built in editor + more user-friendly when creating a new script!
- Faster, more optimized and efficient compared to its counterpart.

CONS:
- No import option for scripts and their related settings from Greasemonkey. So if you're using a lot of scripts you're gonna have to manually re-install them all after making the switch.
- Not very stylish! The little green scroll icon used by Scriptish is kind of old fashioned and ugly. This actually DOES make a difference to a lot of people. Greasemonkey's one is more modern and detailed which just LOOKS better. Not a make or break issue for me personally, but definitely something the add-on developers should address.

I hope you found this review helpful!

Customizations for Adblock Plus

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I don't understand why this isn't built into AdBlock Plus directly, rather than having to install another extension just to have more settings options for the first extension. Pretty weird concept if you ask me. But otherwise it does what it's supposed to, so I'm happy with it!

Classic Toolbar Buttons [Tb24-58] (discontinued)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Not only restores classic buttons, but also has many neat customization features! Absolutely a must have add-on!
