Great and handy tool !
Just a pity that it can't been used as a dictionary toggle, i.e. clicking a dictionary disables the others instead of having to select a dictionary and having to disable the other(s)
Hi! Thanks for your positive review! <3
The dictionary toggle interface does not belong to this extension, it's Thunderbird native interface.
Having said that, Thunderbird and this add-on support selecting various languages at once since last year. Maybe you need to update Thunderbird?

Must have for people writing emails in multiple languages. I really hope it will be upgraded soon for TB115.

Very helpful, using it for years, no problems observed. Thanks a lot for this add-on!

It would be great, if the add-on supports also newsgroups, i,e. remembering the language used for sending a post to a specific newsgroup.

This is one of the most useful Add-ons I use with Thunderbird because I write messages in more than one language.
However, when I replaced the 32 bits Thunderbird for the 64 bits version, my English dictionary was removed. And probably as a result this Add-On stopped checking messages in that language.
I reinstalled the English dictionary and all seems well now! I was previously afraid that this Add-on would not work with the Thunderbird 64 bits version. Apparently I was wrong.

it's good, but after latest thunderbird update it doesn't seem to pick/change a language anymore when i reply above a text. probably the language code isn't put at the very beginning? (i even tried to manually install the latest XPI, but same result)
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.1).Hi, I've checked, but can't fix your problem. I can't reproduce it. Could you please file a bug with the requested in formation here? https://github.com/beltrachi/automatic_dictionary/issues/new Maybe with that I'm able to know what's happening.

In previous versions was working quite OK, but after last updates it collects too much information to assign dictionary, and this render whole add-on useless. In my opinion CC: fields shouldn't be considered when choosing dictionary, as only main recipient determine which language will by most probably used. If author have different opinion, then maybe adding configuration switch will be a solution?

Keep getting this window.gSpellChecker error in my console after any action (click, folder change, etc). TB 78.2.1 on Win7

Love this extension. It would be nice you could use these rules not only to pick the language, but also sender identity, signatures, etc.

- Doesn't seem to remember at all for me !
- Principle is flawed for many use cases : it should offer to remember the domain, or some rules like : .fr domain by default French, etc etc There are many ways to make it more useful/usable.
- It could try and recognize the language in the mail body or at least in the title ?
The REAL need (and what worked with the venerable Eudora 20 years ago) is simply to look into two selected dictionaries, so there is absolutely nothing to do.
This is a feature that should always have been in TB core.
EDITS :
It actually seems to remember for some contacts but there were reasons that led me to think it didn't remember.
Another issue : when CC'ing, it seems to tag the CCs with the language used, which in my case is definitely not good.
I send emails in English (or French) and typically CC French colleagues who therefore keeps oscillating between Fr and En :-(
-> I would suggest to not record CCs language.
Yet another issue : I use 3 computers (2 desktops and a laptop). I don't think there is an easy way to synchronize the associations. Maybe with a storage on the cloud managed by the extension ? But I don't want to enable this for obvious security reasons.
-----
I put back 2 stars since I understand some users might find it useful, but it doesn't cut it for me.
I think I should just un-install this extension and keep whining about how Eudora was (20 years ago) so much better than Thunderbird :-( I tried to ask for some obvious enhancement, long ago, but to no avail.
Hi Bert,
first of all, thanks for trying my addon.
> - Doesn't seem to remember at all for me !
I'm sad that it did not work for you.
I'd like to help you make it work. To help you I need you to follow these steps: https://github.com/beltrachi/automatic_dictionary/blob/master/README.md#bug-reporting
> Principle is flawed for many use cases : it should offer to remember the domain, or some rules like : .fr domain by default French, etc etc There are many ways to make it more useful/usable.
Well it does that in certain way. It's described here: https://github.com/beltrachi/automatic_dictionary#target
>- It could try and recognise the language in the mail body or at least in the title ?
That's another approach that solves another problem, and it's already done. Don't use my extension, you can try this one https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/dictionary-switcher/

I may agree on this part. You can enter the Thunderbird community and push for that to happen if you want https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/get-involved/

This add-on track your usage "on the cloud" by default, you have to manually untick this option in the settings after installation.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.10.4).Hi Theo8,
I just removed data collection completely on last version. Hope that makes you more comfortable with it.

In an international world you have for free done what Mozilla should have considered a core feature. Very useful plugin.
Thank you very much for your hard work!

Fa in pieno quello che deve fare, e anche un po'di più.
Pro: la gestione della lingua in funzione delle persone in indirizzo
Contro: ad oggi nessuno

A use this add-on every day, switching between different languages. It could use some better way to figure out the default language, but I really can't complain. Thumbs up!

Great addon but I really miss two-language support like English and French or Italian. Maybe it is Thunderbird's fault, but for Europeans it is a must

Works as expected. Of course if you keep switching the language for the same people it will suggest the last set language ;)

I've been using it for month now and never experiencing anything but a good functionallity removing the tiresome task of changing the spelling lanuage.
Just thumbs up from me.

is not steady: sometimes it remembers my choices, sometimes not. And sometimes all the words are underlined in red although when I check the spelling, it is the correct one.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.10.2).Hi, sad to hear that. It should be working. Which version are you using?
I released the version 1.10.2 yesterday with some fixes.
If you are in an old one, you will be updated automatically eventually. If that's not the case you can download that version from mozilla and install it manually here: https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/downloads/latest/automatic-dictionary-switching/type:attachment/addon-116388-latest.xpi?src=dp-btn-primary
Hope this helps.
If you are in last version 1.10.2 and it still does not work, please email me and I'll be pleased to help.
