To make this work, one must - somewhat contrary to the garbled instructions - use Thunderbird's 'customize' menu and, with that menu, drag the element called 'addressbook tab' to a toolbar. EDIT: Except, no, the pinned tab thereby created stops working after restarting Tbird. And . . I could go on. But, hold on, *is this addOn even MEANT to work with recent versions of Thunderbird?* If not, it would be better were it flagged as incompatible.
Thanks to the developer for providing functionality that Mozilla did not (but no kudos for the instructions and UI).

Good idea, but needs a button. The path to open is just as bad as having an extra unwanted tab in the taskbar. With reminders, that is usually 3 taskbar buttons taken up by Thunderbird. Not a mark on the maker. I get a bit sick of Thunderbird continually breaking good plugin features with updates.

3 stars for developer's valuable efforts.
Going through steps given by developer it does work on TB 68.5.0 (32-Bit) Win7.
<...>
From TB 68 the start is mandatory:
1. hamburger menu
2. add-ons
3. click on TabAddressbook
<...>
Nevertheless, it could get a bit nicer.
It would be very good to have a button (icon) at the top bar, to switch tab on/off more easy.
Many thanks!

Not working in Thunderbird 73.0b1 for me:
The file jar:file:///Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/Resources/omni.ja!/chrome/messenger/content/messenger/addressbook/addressbook.xul cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.
(Update): Alas, I was afraid that was the case. Thanks for the hard work up to this point!
Thank you for pointing that out.
Unfortunately this addon only works up to version tb 70,
because mozilla has made a major change by switching from xul to xhtml for future versions.
Adjusting this change is to much work for me, so i will end the support for further versions.

Works Great! Thank you. Any chance of making the Contact Tabs plugin work with Thunderbird 68.4.1 ?
The developer, speedball2001, says he is not planning on updating the plugin to be compatible with TB 68.4.1
Thanks for the review.
For changes to compact tabs you have to ask the maintainer speedball2001, if this is possible.

Thanks for updating Addressbook Tab. I find this much handier. Not sure why TB doesn't include it.
However, the plugin needs work. The upper right button opens a blank tab. Tools, Add-on Options opens it properly but this is less than obvious. It remembers its prior open state but moves position to prior to Lightening. It should remember its tab position too.
But I appreciate having it.
"Tools, Add-on Options opens it properly"
This is a special feature of TB from version 68.
I have pointed out this procedure specifically and clearly.

Good concept, but you need to open the address book tab each time after closing the tab or restarting TB, from the add-ons option.
Please address this and its a 5 star add-on!!
This behavior does not occur with my linux OS. Maybe you should check your system settings to see if this is the reason for the error.

It seems promising! It onlly lacks an icon on the right side to be added near to the Activity & Events ones just below the main menu. Anyway I don't know if this is possible with the new standards of TB.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0).To create your own collections, you must have a Mozilla Add-ons account.
