About this Add-on
At install:
1. Disable your default "Play Sound" (in Thunderbird Settings>General>Play Sound). This will allow the Add-on to play the different sounds you set when the Emails are received "Live".
- the custom email sounds are played only on new emails, received during an open Thunderbird (running in the background). No sounds would be played when emails are received in the Inbox when Thunderbird was offline, even when the emails are synced in when you start Thunderbird, no sounds would be played. The sounds are only played on live events (just received new email).
2. Creating Sound Filters with the Add-on:
- the "General Inbox Sound" Filter (per account) Priority should always be positioned at the bottom of the Filter list per account. (look at Screenshots)
The "General Inbox Sound" Filter is the Filter that is defined by "Any Sender", "Any Recipient", "Any Subject". This setting will play the same sound on all Emails received on the Email Account where you created the Sound Filter.
To further fine tune specific Emails to be played with other sounds you need to create additional multi criteria Filters inside each Email Account: "Sender Email", "Subject: XYZ...".
These specific Filters by multiple criteria should be positioned on top of the "General Inbox Sound" Filter. (look at Screenshots)
3. Important if you are using Thunderbird native Message Filters:
- set to "Periodically, every 10 minutes " or "Manually Run"
This is to make sure new emails stay for a short period of time in the Inbox when received and the addon can play the custom sounds.
The "Advanced Sound Filters" addon works only on the Email Inbox, if Thunderbird moves an incoming email directly to another folder, then no sound would be played.
