Memory Fox
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I too tried Memory Fox some time ago, I'm guessing somewhere around the time of version 4 or 5, and unfortunately it did not work well for me. But this version is much different...It works like a charm, usually keeping my Firefox's (version 8 with XP) memory consumption well below the 70MB mark. Rarely does it now hit the 100MB mark, even with 5 or more tabs open...a scenario that would easily consume 200+ MB of memory, without this add-on.
Now some may think, what difference does this savings make if you have 2 or 3 GB of memory onboard? Well it doesn't work quite that way. While of course your overall system performance will be much better with the more memory you have installed, it is still very important to keep your browser memory usage as low as possible in order to achieve top performance. In other words, a browser which uses 200 MB or more of memory will most likely become very sluggish regardless of how much RAM you may have in your system. In fact, any program which has to process 200+ MB of data at a time tends to slow down.
Well done guys!!!
