Mail Merge
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
This extension is still the top of its game for many years already, and an important reason to stick with Thunderbird as a mail client. As I wrote many years ago, many powerful things are possible using MailMerge, but just being able to send personalized mails to a whole mailinglist is priceless.
A few days ago I wrote that this Add-on wasn't doing well, that it was very slow, popping up many different windows when it's run, and that, together with the changes that were forced by the redesign of Thunderbird caused me to be very pessimistic about the future usefulness of this platform. But it turned out that somehow I had ticked the box "Beta" in the settings. The author of this add-on personally reached out to me by email and pointed out that this might be the case. And indeed! Without that box checked, it ran like before, quickly filling my Local Folder's Outbox with generated mails. It took less than a minute to generate some 300 mails with attachments..!
Anyone wanting to do a bit (or a lot!) of automation in sending to a list of people, this is it, highly recommended!
Compact Headers
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Used this for years, but it recently stopped working properly -- I thought. But it is possible to select Hide Headers when right-clicking on a message in the list, which will hide the whole bar. I had inadvertedly done that. But this is quickly restored by consecutively selecting Show Headers..! So the Compact Headers addon is still the only one of its kind, and it keeps working, and @Dillinger responds to reviews, which is great!

The Mass Mail option is a nice alternative for BCC, and you can edit the mail for each recipient if you wish. But the Personal Mail option is what makes it really great for me. It uses as many fields from a .csv as you want, so it can be quite powerful if you prepare it well. For large mailings you end up with a lot of sent mails in your Sent folder, but it uses the Local Folders for that (which I don't use), so on my setup it has its own playground there.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.2).To create your own collections, you must have a Mozilla Add-ons account.
