Paperless-Connector 1.16.1
by mamo2022
Store e-mails and attachments in Paperless-ngx – as a PDF with the original embedded, or as-is – and insert Paperless documents into new messages as an attachment or share link.
About this Add-on
REQUIREMENTS
• A reachable Paperless-ngx instance (2.x; document versions need 2.15 or later)
• An API token from your Paperless user profile (Profile → API token)
• Thunderbird 128 or later
SETUP
1. Add-ons Manager → Paperless-Connector → Options.
2. Enter the base URL, e.g. https://paperless.example.org (no trailing slash).
3. Enter the API token and click "Save". Thunderbird now asks for permission to access exactly this one address – please allow it.
4. "Test connection" shows how many documents are visible.
Optional: defaults for title, tags, PDF font size, paper size and margins, and validity and tag for share links.
WHERE TO FIND IT
• Message list: right-click one or more messages → "Store e-mail in Paperless…"
• Open message: "Store in Paperless" button in the message header
• Attachment bar: right-click an attachment (or "All attachments") → "Store attachment in Paperless…"
• Compose window: "Insert from Paperless" button in the toolbar
• Options: Add-ons Manager → Paperless-Connector → Options
STORING – STEP 1: WHAT
You see the message and all its attachments. For each entry choose:
• "store original" – the file unchanged (for the message: .eml)
• "prepare as PDF" – the message is rendered as a readable, searchable PDF with a header block (account, from, to, cc, date, attachments); the original message and, optionally, the attachments are embedded in the PDF.
Small images such as signature logos are deselected by default.
STORING – STEP 2: WHERE AND HOW
For each selected file in turn:
• Target: "Create a new document" or "Append as a new version to an existing document" (search by title, content or ASN). When adding a version, the target's classification is taken over.
• Classification: title, date, correspondent, document type and tags (with a filter box).
"Store" uploads the file, "Skip" moves on to the next one.
INSERTING WHILE COMPOSING
In the compose window click "Insert from Paperless", search for and pick a document, then:
• "Attachment of the message" – the document (or a specific version) is attached, or
• "Share link in the message body" – Paperless creates a share link with configurable validity, which is inserted into the text.
PRIVACY
The add-on talks exclusively to the Paperless address you entered. There is no telemetry and no third-party service. Host permission is requested at runtime for that single address only. The API token is kept in the add-on's local storage inside your Thunderbird profile.
Paperless-Connector is an independent project and is not affiliated with the Paperless-ngx project.
