In case you have lots of IMAP mailboxes all checked in the same Thunderbird Unified Folder (different Google Mail accounts, work account, ...), you may have to wait more than a few seconds for Thunderbird to get to the bottom of Inbox folder after finishing searching for new messages.
With this addon installed Thunderbird navigates right to the last message in the very moment a folder is opened.
