My Reviews
MozMill
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Building applications without tests is a pain. Hopefully there are now usable tools to achieve that for applications of the Mozilla family (Firefox, Thunderbird, etc.) and their addons/extensions, such as Mozmill.
Mozmill is powerful when run from the command-line as it integrates well with Makefiles and all other scriptable infrastructures.
The difficult part with Mozmill is to get how to retrieve the GUI elements references. There is a recorder on the GUI that produces code that can serve as inspiration.
At the moment the GUI of Mozmill is not really neat, but Mozmill does its job so well when run from the command-line, and the development team is so effective when asked for help, that I still give it the maximum rating. You should definitely try it.
Console²
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Super useful. Simply perfect. Firefox should really have this console. Console is for developers, and developers need the features of this console. The actual default Firefox console is too simplistic and not powerful enough.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.1-signed.1-signed).UxU - UnitTest.XUL
Rated 2 out of 5 stars
It has a good usability, it's stable and secure as far as I can tell.
I use it without any problem with Firefox 3.6.x.
The online documentation is of a very good quality. Very useful for developers.
The only problems that block me are the impossibility to select/trap alert windows and filechooser windows. Thus I use UxU more for unit testing JSM modules and use Mozmill more for functionally testing windows.
Thanks a lot for this great extension!
