When you run your own server, then this is definitly better than Xmarks or other sync schemes. It is always better to store your own data on your own server.

And how difficult is it with today's always-connected households to install an FTP server anyway?

Very balanced. Easy for the eyes. No strong colors, no distraction, not too dark, but a bit darker than most web pages so that the eye attention will focus on the website. Very productive. I have used this persona for over one year now.
