I don't see any reason why this addon should be released to the public...

I use this extension with Firefox3 without any problems.Here is small how-to:
1.Download the XPI file
2.Rename it to .zip and extract it somewhere
3.Find the line that begin with ""
4. replace the whole line with the following text: "3.0.*"
5.Archive the files using ZIP compression
6.Rename the ZIP file to XPI and install the extension(double click it and select firefox as application that will run the file).
I use it for several days and until the dev update the addon this is a nice and simple work-around
*This work on other addons too, but do it at your own risk!

Great plugin! Just one tip: If you want to add gmail don't just use google.com/mail but use the following link instead:
http://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox
