See this handy chart.
Will this extension stop working when I update Thunderbird?
Close to Tray targets all future versions of Thunderbird. As such, it will not automatically stop working just because a new version of Thunderbird was released.
Does it work with Linux?
The version of Close to Tray listed on addons.thunderbird.net does not support Linux. This is because vanilla Thunderbird lacks tray support on Linux.
Why does it say that this extension has "full, unrestricted access to Thunderbird, and my computer"?
To interact with the tray, Close to Tray uses Experiments. Experiments let extensions do more than what is possible with ordinary extension APIs, hence the warning. There's no way to make Close to Tray work without Experiments.
Every addon listed on addons.thunderbird.net is reviewed by Mozilla before being published. You can view the source code for Close to Tray here.
