ЗакрытьAtt-Hub Attachment Viewer, PDF, Image, Zip, Backup 3.0.1
автор thrilldroid
The overall attachment manager & viewer: search, filter, print, save, paste attachments from all chosen mail folders. View in Thunderbird: PDF, Images + HEIC, Office (DOCX, XLSX), CSV, ZIP, GEAB, ... Organize in containers to show, print or backup.
Об этом дополнении
Att-Hub is your central manager for Thunderbird attachments. Att-Hub scans your selected mail folders and instantly presents all attachments in a clear gallery – with search, full-text search, preview, and custom containers for organizing attachments to collect or to backup. ZIP and 7z archives can be browsed directly inside the add-on, and PDFs, Office documents like DOCX, XLSX or CSV tables, videos, TIFF/TGA images, and even HEIC photos are shown locally inside Thunderbird. The Draft View shows all attachments in a preview gallery while composing mail, and you can create ZIPs and PDFs or shrink and convert images directly from your dropped attachments.
Key Features:
Att-Hub was born out of my own need for a better attachment workflow — I use it every day myself. If it helps you too, even better! Questions, ideas or bug reports are welcome: thrilldroid@gmail.com
Key Features:
- Visual Gallery: All images, PDFs and documents in a dynamically adjustable grid – including light and dark themes.
- Local Preview: Images, videos, PDFs, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT/HTML, TIFF/TGA (incl. page navigation for multi-page TIFFs), HEIC/HEIF photos, GAEB files, ICS calendar invites and VCF contact cards are displayed directly inside Thunderbird.
- Jump to Mail: One click opens the original message an attachment belongs to – or jumps straight back to your draft.
- Archive Browser: Open and browse ZIP and 7z attachments directly inside Thunderbird – with real folder structure, breadcrumb navigation, ZIP-in-ZIP nesting and password prompts for encrypted archives.
- Full-Text Search (Deep Search): Searches file names, metadata and file contents (PDF, Office, text) locally in the background – with relevance sorting and over all scanned attachments
- Smart Filters: Find files instantly by file type, sender, inbox/sent via the text search.
- Focus Mode: Full-screen preview with smooth scrolling and zoom – plus rotation, in-document search (Ctrl+F) and page snapshots at selectable DPI.
- Image Editor: Crop, rotate, annotate and adjust brightness, contrast and sharpness – save to disk, copy to a draft or send as a new mail. Even document pages (PDF, DOCX, XLSX) can be captured at selectable DPI and edited on pixel level.
- Shrink & Convert: Reduce or re-encode attachments right inside the draft – JPEG/PNG/PDF output, quality adjustable in fine steps, transparency flattening and an option to keep the original files.
- Print: Print single attachments from Focus Mode or many at once in a grid layout – including PDFs, Office documents, text and HTML files.
- Custom Containers: Organize attachments with intuitive drag & drop into virtual containers.
- Bulk Actions: Select multiple files to download them as ZIP, attach them directly to a new email, or print them in a grid layout.
- Draft View: While composing, browse, sort, zip or convert attachments to PDF in the gallery – incl. paste from clipboard and drop-in area via drag & drop. Create AES-256 password-protected ZIPs, merge images into a PDF, shrink or convert pictures, edit and replace attachments, or draw a quick note and attach it right away.
- Online Viewer (optional): For exotic formats like CAD files (dwg, dxf), older Office formats and PPTX, an external viewer service can be used and configured in the settings – works for drafts and files inside ZIP archives, too.

NEW IN 3.0.1
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dashboard tidied up
The buttons under "System & Database" now say plainly what they
do: "Rescan Mail Folders", "Clear Thumbnail Cache", "Smart Clean
(keeps Containers)" and "Total Reset (like new Install)". The
safety note below is a single short italic line.
Mouse & keyboard help corrected
The help lists in the dashboard now match the actual controls:
Ctrl+Click (multi-select), arrow-key tile navigation, Home/End
and Ctrl+F (in-document search) are newly listed; panning in the
Focus view via ▲/▼ needs no Shift, and drag & drop onto
containers is marked as a sidebar action.
Settings simplified
Headings now read "Shown Mail Directions", "Shown File Types",
"Excluded Filenames" and "Default Document Zoom" – each with the
clear context "Archive View" or "Focus View". The redundant
HEIC/HEIF entry under "External Services" was removed – the
online-viewer fallback stays in place internally.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 3.0.0
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(uploaded, but not yet reviewed)
Folder preselection: Gmail "All Mail" no longer checked
Gmail's "All Mail" folder reports itself to Thunderbird as an
archive folder and was therefore always preselected in the scan
folder picker – even though it holds the entire mailbox including
Inbox and Sent and would run every mail through the scanner twice.
It is now detected and stays unchecked: via the folder type "all"
or – for Gmail, where it reports as "archives" – via the
never-localized [Gmail]/[Google Mail] system root in the folder
path (the leaf name is localized server-side per account language,
e.g. "Alle Nachrichten" in German). Real archive folders stay
preselected; anyone who wants that folder scanned can still check
it manually.
Silent migration on update
If "All Mail" was already stored in a profile's saved scan
folders, a one-time migration on add-on startup removes the entry
silently – no dialog, and the rest of the selection is left
untouched.
Version number
The jump to 3.0.0 marks the sum of changes since the last
published version 2.7.2 – all intermediate versions were never
published; these notes cover them combined.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.9 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New add-on icon
The static icon is now a frozen frame of the familiar loading
animation: the same 3×3 tiles in the same geometry, the wave
captured with its crest at the bottom right. Icon and loading
logo tell the same motion; in dark themes it inverts to the
light variant as before.
Dashboard: logo runs as a wave instead of pulsing
The dashboard logo no longer pulses as a whole – the wave now
sweeps gently through the nine tiles (an opacity-only gradient
on a calm 3.6 s cycle). The milestone popup uses the same wave
and, as a small surprise, adds a springy pulse-and-swing move.
Dashboard: note under the system buttons
Under "System & Database" a clear note now explains: every
button there (Rescan, Clear Cache, Smart Clean, Total Reset)
only affects the Att-Hub index and cache – existing e-mails and
their attachments are never touched.
Focus view: preview stays until the real render lands
Opening large attachments (PDFs especially) flickered: the
enlarged preview thumbnail vanished midway, leaving only the
loading logo until the finished render arrived. The cause were
late-arriving background writes to the card (thumbnail reloads,
auto-heal and password events, parallel document loads) emptying
the wrapper mid-open. Those jobs now leave the zoomed card
untouched – the thumbnail stays put and is seamlessly replaced
by the sharp render, with the loading logo above it as intended.
Editor: "Save to Disk" works even without edits
Outside a draft the save button now reads "Save to Disk"
(matching "New Mail"). Two defects are gone: saving without any
edits used to just close the editor – now the original file is
downloaded as expected. And cancelling the save dialog wrongly
reported "Error editing image" – the cancel is now accepted
silently. Both fixes apply to the snapshot path as well.
Inside a draft, "Save"/"Save Copy" are unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.8 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Auto-sync: set reconciliation instead of constant churn
The periodic check inside the archive tab used to probe every
known message individually – one API call per mail, minutes of
continuous work per interval on large archives. That surfaced as
recurring system freezes while an Att-Hub tab was open (closing
the tab fixed it instantly). The check now runs as a set
reconciliation: one paged query per monitored folder returns all
live mails at once; only unmatched entries get a targeted
per-item verify (headerMessageId, tbId) – deleted mails are
removed, moved ones healed. Day-to-day correctness is already
covered by the real-time move/delete listeners plus
heal-on-access when opening a card.
The cycle now runs once per session (plus manually via
pull-to-refresh at any time), pauses while the tab is hidden and
catches up on becoming visible again. Removed entries are batched
– one gallery rebuild at the end instead of one per item. Heals
now also rewrite the folder context and internal id (migrating
the thumbnail along), exactly like a live move does. The
follow-up rescan covers 3 days instead of 30 – the same window
the background sync already uses. Offline nothing is deleted; and
more than 50 suspicious entries aborts the cleanup as a safety
net (as before).
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.7 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sharpen slider in the adjust toolbox
The toolbox gains a fifth axis: "Sharpen" (±18) applies an unsharp
mask – positive values enhance fine edges, negative values soften
the image. The strength scales with the image resolution so the
preview and the export look alike. The slider works together with
all other axes, memory slots and undo/redo, and applies to
"Save"/"New Mail" output as well.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.6 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adjust toolbox in the image editor
A new toolbar switch opens a panel with four sliders: Brightness,
Contrast, Saturation and Gamma (±18 each). Every row has fine −/+
step buttons and a value readout; the brightness steppers in the
toolbar mirror the slider (and vice versa). "Reset" zeroes all
axes. At the bottom sit four memory slots M1–M4: MS ("Memory
Store") arms store mode, the next M click saves the current
setting – a normal click recalls it (undoable). Filled slots are
marked and persist across sessions.
Free image rotation with auto-crop
The rotate buttons turn the image in 1° steps while Ctrl is held
and in 0.5° steps while Shift is held (a plain click still turns
90°). The image is automatically cropped to the largest inscribed
rectangle – no transparent corners appear. The angle accumulates
against the original: repeated clicks equal a single rotation by
the summed angle, so the crop correctly grows again past 45° and
returns the full image at 90° (square) or 180°. Annotations rotate
along; every step is individually undoable.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.5 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brightening with more punch
The editor's brightening curve now also lifts the darker midtones
noticeably (a wider falloff instead of only the deepest shadows) –
closer to the "optimize" result of common photo apps, with a bit
more saturation in the lifted areas. A light contrast compensation
is now baked in as well, so no manual contrast touch-up is needed.
Darkening and the contrast control are unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.4 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Much less background work
The background scanner now verifies old attachments via their
attachment metadata instead of downloading every file in full –
previously the most expensive continuous task. A real download now
only happens when the metadata is inconsistent or a card is opened
directly. When the scanner finds nothing to do, it stretches its
pauses automatically (5 → 15 → 60 seconds) and springs back to full
speed the moment there is work.
A quiet background tab
While the Att-Hub tab sits in the background, the small always-on
pollers rest too: window-geometry polling (1 s), the draft
attachment check (1.5 s) and the bound-mail check pause; PDF
pre-rendering, text-layer building and the thumbnail queue wait
until the tab is visible again – then resume seamlessly.
Noticeably calmer Thunderbird, especially on weaker hardware.
Self-healing fully preserved
Automatic repair (moved/deleted messages, recycled ids) is
unchanged: it keeps working via the metadata check and is still
enforced when a card is opened directly.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.3 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Editor opens instantly
Clicking "Edit" opens the editor right away – even while the
attachment is still being fetched or a HEIC file is decoding. The
workspace shows a spinner meanwhile, and reopening no longer
flashes a leftover frame of the previously edited image.
Brightness & contrast reworked
The editor corrections use a new curve: brightening targets the
shadows (highlights are preserved), darkening targets the
highlights – noticeably more natural than the previous uniform
shift. The step range grew from ±9 to ±18.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.2 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Videos: preview, playback & system player
Video attachments get a real thumbnail: an early frame pulled from
the video plus a small play badge. Double-click opens the Focus view
with a built-in player (play/pause, seek, volume, fullscreen) for
everything Thunderbird can decode (MP4/H.264, WebM and friends).
Undecodable containers show a clear hint instead; the system player
launches via "Open in default app" in the toolbar – including the
familiar one-time note about the standard download folder.
Unplayable videos keep their regular placeholder thumbnail.
Calendar (ICS) as an event card
.ics files no longer render as raw text: the tile shows a calendar
sheet (month, big day, year) with title, time and location – plus
organizer, attendees, status and recurrence below. The Focus view
shows an invitation-style card, at least square, growing into
portrait for long descriptions. Printing works from the gallery and
the Focus view. Invitations that only exist as a text/calendar MIME
part in the message body (no real attachment) are recognized too
and appear as a "<Subject>.ics" card. Broken or empty ICS files fall
back to the previous text rendering.
Contacts (VCF) as a contact card
.vcf files get the same treatment in green: tile and Focus view show
an avatar (photo from the file or initials), name, title,
organization, phone, email, address, birthday, website and note –
including multiple contacts per file. Quoted-printable and
Windows-1252 umlauts decode correctly. Printing works from the
gallery and the Focus view.
Inline images: adjustable minimum size
The "Inline Images" filter point now carries a KB input: checkbox
off = no inline images, checkbox on = only images at or above the
configured size (default 150 KB, 0 = all). The setting applies
consistently to the archive and the message view; the counter
matches the display.
New filter points
"Videos", "Calendar (ICS)" and "Contacts (VCF)" are dedicated
checkboxes in the settings – these types no longer fall under
"Text Files" or "Other".
Sharper thumbnails
Thumbnails are now rendered at the actual card size times the
screen's pixel density (instead of fixed values) and stored as PNG
instead of JPEG – event/contact/GAEB cards stay crisp on large
monitors. Cached thumbnails that are too small are regenerated
larger automatically on next load.
New defaults
Fresh installations start with 4 grid columns and a 150 KB inline
minimum. On update, the type filters are reset once to "all on
except Other" so the new filter points take effect immediately –
deliberate opt-outs are overwritten once, afterwards your own
settings apply as usual.
Bug fixes
- Invitations without a real attachment flashed briefly and
disappeared: the size check only knew real attachments and
wrongly marked the calendar part as deleted. The expected size
is now also verified against the message's MIME tree.
- Leaving the Focus view of an event tile left the
loading/placeholder icon on top of the thumbnail – fixed.
- VCF files with a large embedded photo painted a giant circle
across the Focus view and squeezed the contact name – fixed;
an undecodable photo falls back to the initials avatar.
- Opening a video in the Focus view briefly showed the grid
thumbnail blown up to full screen – it is now capped at the
player height and shown centered.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.1 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Context-Menu "Copy" Respects the Selection
In Focus view, "Copy" from the right-click menu put the whole document
text on the clipboard instead of the marked passage – for formats that
rely on the native text selection (PDF, plain text). Clicking the menu
item collapsed the selection before the text was read; the menu now
suppresses this step, so the selection survives and Copy delivers
exactly the marked text. Ctrl+C and region marking (Ctrl+drag) were
unaffected and remain unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.0 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
View Mode: Large Inline Images Are Shown
Inline images of 80 KB or more now count as real attachments in
View mode and appear as cards – even without the "Inline Images"
filter checkbox. Small inline graphics like signature logos or
tracking pixels stay hidden. Bonus: a message containing only a
large inline image now enables the Att-Hub button in the message
view. Archive and Draft are unchanged.
Enlarged Cards Follow the Sidebars
The enlarged presentation of few attachments (View & Draft, from
2.8.8/2.8.9) ignored the containers/settings sidebar toggling:
cards kept their old size, slipped out of view on the left, or
settled on a too-small intermediate size. The width is now
re-measured throughout the sidebar animation – the cards track
it smoothly and land on exactly the right size.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.9 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Draft: Few Cards Shown Large
The enlarged, centered card presentation from View mode now
applies to drafts as well: fewer attachments than the
configured grid count render as large cards in their regular
proportions, centered – the drop card ("Drop new Files here")
counts as its own cell and is enlarged equally. When all rows
fit the viewport, the block is centered vertically. Empty
drafts, Archive and full grids are unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.8 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
View Mode: Few Cards Shown Large
When View mode shows fewer attachments than the configured
grid count, the cards are now rendered as large as possible
in their regular proportions (square content + info bar) and
centered horizontally. When multiple rows still fit the
viewport entirely, the whole block is centered vertically as
well – with the familiar 20 px margin like the regular
gallery. Full grids, Archive and Draft are unchanged.
Draft Drop Zone Without Flicker
The blue target highlight of the draft attachment card now
stays stable while the pointer moves across text or buttons
inside the card – it is only cleared when the card is really
left.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.7 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Mail from the Image Editor
When the editor is opened outside a draft (archive, message
view, screenshot), the second button now reads "New Mail":
it opens a fresh compose window with the edited image
attached. "Save" still downloads the file to the system;
inside a draft everything stays the familiar "Save"/"Save
Copy".
Screenshot Straight into the Editor
The Focus view's snapshot mode gains a fourth button:
"Editor" sends the high-res selection straight into the image
editor – annotate, save or send via "New Mail". Snapshots are
handed to the editor as JPEG (white background): outputs are
named <document>-snapshot.jpg and are much smaller than PNGs
– ideal for mailing. Copy and Print in the snapshot bar stay
lossless PNG.
JPG Quality Goes Global
The "JPG Quality" slider in Settings now drives every
user-facing JPEG output: clipboard paste, editor export
(Save / New Mail), snapshots and Shrink. Internal thumbnails
and the print path keep their fixed values.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.6 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Focus View: Zoom & Fit Reworked
The configured document zoom ("Default Document Zoom") now acts as a
lower bound: whenever a pure width fraction would render the page
smaller than best fit – typical for landscape pages – it is enlarged
to the full view automatically. "Full Width" now fills exactly the
usable width without clipping the right edge (page margin and sidebar
are subtracted correctly). New default for fresh installs:
"2/3 Screen Width".
Fit Toggle Reversed
The first click on the Fit icon now zooms to full width; the second
restores exactly the opening view the document launched with in Focus
– consistently for PDF, DOCX, XLSX, images, HTML, CSV, GAEB and the
DOCX fallback. In the fallback (docx-preview) the base dimensions are
now read from the rendered page – the fit zoom no longer overshoots
when a document contains embedded images.
View Mode: Few Cards Centered
When View mode shows fewer attachments than the configured grid
count, the card group is now centered horizontally in the window
instead of hugging the left edge. Full grids, Archive and Draft are
unchanged.
Editor: Pan & Clean Overlay
While zoomed in, the middle mouse button pans the image (grab-and-pan)
– only inside the editor and only when actually zoomed. With the
editor open, neither the Zen context menu nor the Zen middle-click
toggle can fire underneath it.
Pull-Band Arrows as a Fidget
The sync arrows now follow the pull steplessly in both directions –
pulling down rotates forward, pushing back rewinds. At the release
point they snap quickly to an exactly vertical position; releasing
early rewinds them visibly instead of jumping back.
Draft Card
The sender entry now simply reads "Draft".
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.5 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image Editor for Draft Attachments
Images in a draft can now be edited right inside Att-Hub – no
external tools needed. The Edit button lives in the hover menu of
every image card and in the Focus view. The editor provides a full
draw mode: select, rectangle, ellipse, arrow, line, measure,
censor (pixelate), polygon, freehand and text – with color, fill,
stroke width and presets. Objects can be selected, moved, scaled
and rotated via a handle or slider; rotation is locked while
drawing.
Freehand & Text in Detail
All strokes of one freehand session are grouped into a single
object – a tool switch starts a new one. The result can be scaled
proportionally via corner handles. Text labels also attach to
line, arrow and measure tools – with placement, alignment, italic
style and font size.
Corrections, Zoom & History
Brightness and contrast in steps – a small indicator shows the
deviation from the original and resets it on click. Plus:
90° rotation, cropping, undo/redo down to the initial state and
press-and-hold original preview. Zoom via buttons with percentage
display or Ctrl+wheel centered on the cursor (Fit up to 3×);
stroke widths stay zoom-independent. The middle mouse button
remains reserved for autoscrolling.
Saving & Formats
"Save" replaces the original attachment at its position, "Save
Copy" stores a copy right behind it with automatic numbering
(-1, -2, …) – no ever-growing "(edited)" names. Uncommon formats
(HEIC, BMP, GIF, TGA, WebP …) are always converted to a common
format on save: PNG when transparent, JPEG otherwise – a HEIC
never stays HEIC. With nothing selected, the context bar shows
image info: file name, pixel size, bit depth, transparency and
file size.
Image Shrinking (Shrink)
New footer button in Draft view: mark any number of attachments –
only the images among them are processed. Pick the maximum edge
length (2560 down to 800 px); output is PNG when transparent,
JPEG otherwise. GIFs are skipped (their animation would be lost),
and a result is only applied when it is actually smaller – with a
short summary at the end.
More Robust Draft Handling
Attachment ids that change while editing are recovered by file
name; inline images are never touched during draft reordering.
After Save/Save Copy the gallery jumps to the new card instead of
scrolling back to the top.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.1 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GAEB Support (X83, D83, P83 & Co.)
GAEB files are now a dedicated attachment type with a real preview:
a self-written parser reads GAEB DA XML (.x83) and the line-oriented
GAEB 90 format (.d83) – including GAEB 2000 (.p83) and all other
exchange phases. The bill of quantities renders as a structured,
colored document: header with format and phase, project data, nested
title groups and items with OZ, quantity, unit, unit/total price plus
short and long texts.
GAEB in the Gallery
GAEB cards show a real miniature bill of quantities as a full-opacity
thumbnail. Double-click and the Focus button open the Focus View at
120% initial zoom, with the usual zoom controls on top. Settings get
their own filter checkbox; existing GAEB attachments are reclassified
from "Other" at load time so nothing disappears.
GAEB Search & Print
Deep Search indexes the parsed content (OZ, texts, metadata) – older
GAEB files indexed as "other" are automatically re-queued. The Focus
View offers the magnifier search with match highlighting and
navigation. Zen printing outputs the structured document as
multi-page text, including colors and without tearing item rows.
GAEB files inside ZIP archives are detected correctly as well.
Gallery as a True Grid
The gallery now uses a fixed CSS grid: tiles always keep the
configured grid size – few attachments are no longer blown up, and
the last row aligns cleanly to the left instead of floating centered.
Also fixed: a completely grey gallery and a jumping scrollbar during
fast scrolling (the invisible spacer elements now correctly span the
full width).
Lean Thumbnail Pipeline
Thumbnail generation now runs through a bounded queue (max. 4
concurrent jobs) instead of unlimited parallel work – wild scrolling
no longer freezes Thunderbird. Priority follows the eye: fully
visible tiles first, top-left to bottom-right, then partially visible
ones, then a narrow preview ring around the viewport. Scrolling on
or searching anew discards stale jobs instead of catching up on them.
Search with Memory & History
New search history: a clock icon at the left of the search field opens
a dropdown of the last 10 searches (filtered while typing, keyboard
navigation, individually deletable). Entries are stored after 4s of
typing pause, on Enter, on clearing or on blur – no half-typed
fragments. Searching jumps the gallery to the top; clearing the
search restores the exact previous position. And: clicking a card
removes focus from the search field – the arrow keys steer the
gallery again right away.
Open ZIP/7z Directly
Double-clicking browsable archives opens the archive view; the Focus
button is active for that – including password-protected archives,
which ask for the password on open.
Instances & Windows Tidied Up
Containers are now called "Complete Archive" and "Always Hidden" (the
latter still absent in Draft/View). The "+" button is now "+ Instance"
with a clear window-with-plus icon and opens new workspaces in the
configured Default Launch Mode – the mode applies immediately to new
instances without hijacking the running one. Windows now always open
with a reachable title bar: oversized saved dimensions (e.g. from a
larger monitor) are clamped to the screen on open. When switching
tab↔window via the Switch View button, an open settings sidebar is
preserved.
Pull Band with a Feel for Space
The pull band adapts its drag sensitivity to the available screen
space: with little room left to the bottom edge, proportionally less
mouse travel is needed – the effect stays tangible everywhere.
Sync & Cleanup
A manual refresh may now run even during the startup grace period,
and with multiple instances the sync cycle automatically runs in only
one instance (a lock with successor logic on close).
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.7.3 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Multiple Instances: Tabs & Windows (Opt-in)
Att-Hub can now run several independent workspaces side by side – as
tabs and as separate windows (handy for multi-monitor setups). The
feature is off by default ("Multiple instances (tabs/windows)" in
Settings) so beginners keep their overview; enabled, it becomes a real
power feature, e.g. two parallel attachment searches or Focus views.
"+" Button for New Workspaces
The "+" button opens a fresh, clean archive instance – inside a window
it spawns a window, inside a tab a tab. Switching between tab and
window (detach/dock) is always possible via the Switch View button and
carries the current context along.
Dedicated View & Draft Instances
Mail views and drafts are now their own instances that no longer
"consume" your archive: a draft stays bound to its compose window
(reused across tabs and windows), and views/drafts end cleanly when
their context ends. New buttons: "Go to Archive" jumps to the last-used
archive (or opens one), "Back to Mail" returns to the message and
closes the context instance. The standard Att-Hub button always brings
the most recently used instance forward – only "+" creates additional
archives.
Smart Window Management
New windows open slightly offset (cascade) so they never hide
invisibly on top of each other. The title bar always stays reachable –
saved positions are validated and corrected before opening (fixes
vanished title bars after maximize/restore). A guardrail caps the
total at 10 instances, and optionally Att-Hub cleans up itself:
"Close unused instances after 1h" closes idle archive instances after
one hour – never views or drafts, and the last archive always survives.
Faster Auto-Sync Interval
The default auto-sync interval was shortened from 5 minutes to
1 minute; a new 30-second option is available for powerful machines.
With multiple instances, indexing and sync automatically run in only
one instance (internal locks) – no duplicate work.
ESC Tamed
An accidental ESC no longer closes tabs/windows and no longer resets
the archive to its starting view. ESC now only performs local steps:
cancel a modal, leave Focus View, clear the search, go back a ZIP
level.
Sharper Photo Thumbnails
Image thumbnails are now downscaled in multiple steps and stored at a
higher JPEG quality – diagonal high-contrast lines and fine detail look
noticeably smoother (no more stair-stepping). Existing thumbnails are
regenerated automatically once; runtime cost is minimal.
Compact Card Action Bar Without Hover
The hover bar (Focus, Info, Open Mail) no longer covers card text: on a
checked card without the mouse over it, it shrinks to just the
checkbox – which now always sits at the far right and no longer jumps.
The active card also only shows the bar while hovered.
Drag & Scroll Rethought
Drag & drop onto containers only exists while the containers sidebar is
open – the only place it makes sense. With the sidebar closed, dragging
with the mouse held down scrolls the gallery with inertia (like in
Focus View); a simple click activates the card as before. During a drag
the gallery no longer edge-scrolls – instead the container list now
scrolls at its top/bottom edge so even far-away containers stay
reachable.
Focus View: Exact Return Position
Leaving Focus View now restores the gallery pixel-perfectly to its
previous position – the active card is right where it was before.
Decluttered Toolbar
The global "Focus View" button was removed – Focus View remains
reachable via the card button, double-click and the context menu.
Office Lock Files in Archives
Temporary Office lock files ("~$…") inside ZIP/7z archives are handled
correctly: they stay visible and extractable but no longer produce
parser-error thumbnails, showing a clear notice instead of an error.
NEW IN 3.0.1
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dashboard tidied up
The buttons under "System & Database" now say plainly what they
do: "Rescan Mail Folders", "Clear Thumbnail Cache", "Smart Clean
(keeps Containers)" and "Total Reset (like new Install)". The
safety note below is a single short italic line.
Mouse & keyboard help corrected
The help lists in the dashboard now match the actual controls:
Ctrl+Click (multi-select), arrow-key tile navigation, Home/End
and Ctrl+F (in-document search) are newly listed; panning in the
Focus view via ▲/▼ needs no Shift, and drag & drop onto
containers is marked as a sidebar action.
Settings simplified
Headings now read "Shown Mail Directions", "Shown File Types",
"Excluded Filenames" and "Default Document Zoom" – each with the
clear context "Archive View" or "Focus View". The redundant
HEIC/HEIF entry under "External Services" was removed – the
online-viewer fallback stays in place internally.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 3.0.0
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(uploaded, but not yet reviewed)
Folder preselection: Gmail "All Mail" no longer checked
Gmail's "All Mail" folder reports itself to Thunderbird as an
archive folder and was therefore always preselected in the scan
folder picker – even though it holds the entire mailbox including
Inbox and Sent and would run every mail through the scanner twice.
It is now detected and stays unchecked: via the folder type "all"
or – for Gmail, where it reports as "archives" – via the
never-localized [Gmail]/[Google Mail] system root in the folder
path (the leaf name is localized server-side per account language,
e.g. "Alle Nachrichten" in German). Real archive folders stay
preselected; anyone who wants that folder scanned can still check
it manually.
Silent migration on update
If "All Mail" was already stored in a profile's saved scan
folders, a one-time migration on add-on startup removes the entry
silently – no dialog, and the rest of the selection is left
untouched.
Version number
The jump to 3.0.0 marks the sum of changes since the last
published version 2.7.2 – all intermediate versions were never
published; these notes cover them combined.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.9 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New add-on icon
The static icon is now a frozen frame of the familiar loading
animation: the same 3×3 tiles in the same geometry, the wave
captured with its crest at the bottom right. Icon and loading
logo tell the same motion; in dark themes it inverts to the
light variant as before.
Dashboard: logo runs as a wave instead of pulsing
The dashboard logo no longer pulses as a whole – the wave now
sweeps gently through the nine tiles (an opacity-only gradient
on a calm 3.6 s cycle). The milestone popup uses the same wave
and, as a small surprise, adds a springy pulse-and-swing move.
Dashboard: note under the system buttons
Under "System & Database" a clear note now explains: every
button there (Rescan, Clear Cache, Smart Clean, Total Reset)
only affects the Att-Hub index and cache – existing e-mails and
their attachments are never touched.
Focus view: preview stays until the real render lands
Opening large attachments (PDFs especially) flickered: the
enlarged preview thumbnail vanished midway, leaving only the
loading logo until the finished render arrived. The cause were
late-arriving background writes to the card (thumbnail reloads,
auto-heal and password events, parallel document loads) emptying
the wrapper mid-open. Those jobs now leave the zoomed card
untouched – the thumbnail stays put and is seamlessly replaced
by the sharp render, with the loading logo above it as intended.
Editor: "Save to Disk" works even without edits
Outside a draft the save button now reads "Save to Disk"
(matching "New Mail"). Two defects are gone: saving without any
edits used to just close the editor – now the original file is
downloaded as expected. And cancelling the save dialog wrongly
reported "Error editing image" – the cancel is now accepted
silently. Both fixes apply to the snapshot path as well.
Inside a draft, "Save"/"Save Copy" are unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.8 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Auto-sync: set reconciliation instead of constant churn
The periodic check inside the archive tab used to probe every
known message individually – one API call per mail, minutes of
continuous work per interval on large archives. That surfaced as
recurring system freezes while an Att-Hub tab was open (closing
the tab fixed it instantly). The check now runs as a set
reconciliation: one paged query per monitored folder returns all
live mails at once; only unmatched entries get a targeted
per-item verify (headerMessageId, tbId) – deleted mails are
removed, moved ones healed. Day-to-day correctness is already
covered by the real-time move/delete listeners plus
heal-on-access when opening a card.
The cycle now runs once per session (plus manually via
pull-to-refresh at any time), pauses while the tab is hidden and
catches up on becoming visible again. Removed entries are batched
– one gallery rebuild at the end instead of one per item. Heals
now also rewrite the folder context and internal id (migrating
the thumbnail along), exactly like a live move does. The
follow-up rescan covers 3 days instead of 30 – the same window
the background sync already uses. Offline nothing is deleted; and
more than 50 suspicious entries aborts the cleanup as a safety
net (as before).
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.7 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sharpen slider in the adjust toolbox
The toolbox gains a fifth axis: "Sharpen" (±18) applies an unsharp
mask – positive values enhance fine edges, negative values soften
the image. The strength scales with the image resolution so the
preview and the export look alike. The slider works together with
all other axes, memory slots and undo/redo, and applies to
"Save"/"New Mail" output as well.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.6 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adjust toolbox in the image editor
A new toolbar switch opens a panel with four sliders: Brightness,
Contrast, Saturation and Gamma (±18 each). Every row has fine −/+
step buttons and a value readout; the brightness steppers in the
toolbar mirror the slider (and vice versa). "Reset" zeroes all
axes. At the bottom sit four memory slots M1–M4: MS ("Memory
Store") arms store mode, the next M click saves the current
setting – a normal click recalls it (undoable). Filled slots are
marked and persist across sessions.
Free image rotation with auto-crop
The rotate buttons turn the image in 1° steps while Ctrl is held
and in 0.5° steps while Shift is held (a plain click still turns
90°). The image is automatically cropped to the largest inscribed
rectangle – no transparent corners appear. The angle accumulates
against the original: repeated clicks equal a single rotation by
the summed angle, so the crop correctly grows again past 45° and
returns the full image at 90° (square) or 180°. Annotations rotate
along; every step is individually undoable.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.5 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brightening with more punch
The editor's brightening curve now also lifts the darker midtones
noticeably (a wider falloff instead of only the deepest shadows) –
closer to the "optimize" result of common photo apps, with a bit
more saturation in the lifted areas. A light contrast compensation
is now baked in as well, so no manual contrast touch-up is needed.
Darkening and the contrast control are unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.4 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Much less background work
The background scanner now verifies old attachments via their
attachment metadata instead of downloading every file in full –
previously the most expensive continuous task. A real download now
only happens when the metadata is inconsistent or a card is opened
directly. When the scanner finds nothing to do, it stretches its
pauses automatically (5 → 15 → 60 seconds) and springs back to full
speed the moment there is work.
A quiet background tab
While the Att-Hub tab sits in the background, the small always-on
pollers rest too: window-geometry polling (1 s), the draft
attachment check (1.5 s) and the bound-mail check pause; PDF
pre-rendering, text-layer building and the thumbnail queue wait
until the tab is visible again – then resume seamlessly.
Noticeably calmer Thunderbird, especially on weaker hardware.
Self-healing fully preserved
Automatic repair (moved/deleted messages, recycled ids) is
unchanged: it keeps working via the metadata check and is still
enforced when a card is opened directly.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.3 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Editor opens instantly
Clicking "Edit" opens the editor right away – even while the
attachment is still being fetched or a HEIC file is decoding. The
workspace shows a spinner meanwhile, and reopening no longer
flashes a leftover frame of the previously edited image.
Brightness & contrast reworked
The editor corrections use a new curve: brightening targets the
shadows (highlights are preserved), darkening targets the
highlights – noticeably more natural than the previous uniform
shift. The step range grew from ±9 to ±18.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.2 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Videos: preview, playback & system player
Video attachments get a real thumbnail: an early frame pulled from
the video plus a small play badge. Double-click opens the Focus view
with a built-in player (play/pause, seek, volume, fullscreen) for
everything Thunderbird can decode (MP4/H.264, WebM and friends).
Undecodable containers show a clear hint instead; the system player
launches via "Open in default app" in the toolbar – including the
familiar one-time note about the standard download folder.
Unplayable videos keep their regular placeholder thumbnail.
Calendar (ICS) as an event card
.ics files no longer render as raw text: the tile shows a calendar
sheet (month, big day, year) with title, time and location – plus
organizer, attendees, status and recurrence below. The Focus view
shows an invitation-style card, at least square, growing into
portrait for long descriptions. Printing works from the gallery and
the Focus view. Invitations that only exist as a text/calendar MIME
part in the message body (no real attachment) are recognized too
and appear as a "<Subject>.ics" card. Broken or empty ICS files fall
back to the previous text rendering.
Contacts (VCF) as a contact card
.vcf files get the same treatment in green: tile and Focus view show
an avatar (photo from the file or initials), name, title,
organization, phone, email, address, birthday, website and note –
including multiple contacts per file. Quoted-printable and
Windows-1252 umlauts decode correctly. Printing works from the
gallery and the Focus view.
Inline images: adjustable minimum size
The "Inline Images" filter point now carries a KB input: checkbox
off = no inline images, checkbox on = only images at or above the
configured size (default 150 KB, 0 = all). The setting applies
consistently to the archive and the message view; the counter
matches the display.
New filter points
"Videos", "Calendar (ICS)" and "Contacts (VCF)" are dedicated
checkboxes in the settings – these types no longer fall under
"Text Files" or "Other".
Sharper thumbnails
Thumbnails are now rendered at the actual card size times the
screen's pixel density (instead of fixed values) and stored as PNG
instead of JPEG – event/contact/GAEB cards stay crisp on large
monitors. Cached thumbnails that are too small are regenerated
larger automatically on next load.
New defaults
Fresh installations start with 4 grid columns and a 150 KB inline
minimum. On update, the type filters are reset once to "all on
except Other" so the new filter points take effect immediately –
deliberate opt-outs are overwritten once, afterwards your own
settings apply as usual.
Bug fixes
- Invitations without a real attachment flashed briefly and
disappeared: the size check only knew real attachments and
wrongly marked the calendar part as deleted. The expected size
is now also verified against the message's MIME tree.
- Leaving the Focus view of an event tile left the
loading/placeholder icon on top of the thumbnail – fixed.
- VCF files with a large embedded photo painted a giant circle
across the Focus view and squeezed the contact name – fixed;
an undecodable photo falls back to the initials avatar.
- Opening a video in the Focus view briefly showed the grid
thumbnail blown up to full screen – it is now capped at the
player height and shown centered.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.1 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Context-Menu "Copy" Respects the Selection
In Focus view, "Copy" from the right-click menu put the whole document
text on the clipboard instead of the marked passage – for formats that
rely on the native text selection (PDF, plain text). Clicking the menu
item collapsed the selection before the text was read; the menu now
suppresses this step, so the selection survives and Copy delivers
exactly the marked text. Ctrl+C and region marking (Ctrl+drag) were
unaffected and remain unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.9.0 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
View Mode: Large Inline Images Are Shown
Inline images of 80 KB or more now count as real attachments in
View mode and appear as cards – even without the "Inline Images"
filter checkbox. Small inline graphics like signature logos or
tracking pixels stay hidden. Bonus: a message containing only a
large inline image now enables the Att-Hub button in the message
view. Archive and Draft are unchanged.
Enlarged Cards Follow the Sidebars
The enlarged presentation of few attachments (View & Draft, from
2.8.8/2.8.9) ignored the containers/settings sidebar toggling:
cards kept their old size, slipped out of view on the left, or
settled on a too-small intermediate size. The width is now
re-measured throughout the sidebar animation – the cards track
it smoothly and land on exactly the right size.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.9 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Draft: Few Cards Shown Large
The enlarged, centered card presentation from View mode now
applies to drafts as well: fewer attachments than the
configured grid count render as large cards in their regular
proportions, centered – the drop card ("Drop new Files here")
counts as its own cell and is enlarged equally. When all rows
fit the viewport, the block is centered vertically. Empty
drafts, Archive and full grids are unchanged.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.8 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
View Mode: Few Cards Shown Large
When View mode shows fewer attachments than the configured
grid count, the cards are now rendered as large as possible
in their regular proportions (square content + info bar) and
centered horizontally. When multiple rows still fit the
viewport entirely, the whole block is centered vertically as
well – with the familiar 20 px margin like the regular
gallery. Full grids, Archive and Draft are unchanged.
Draft Drop Zone Without Flicker
The blue target highlight of the draft attachment card now
stays stable while the pointer moves across text or buttons
inside the card – it is only cleared when the card is really
left.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.7 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Mail from the Image Editor
When the editor is opened outside a draft (archive, message
view, screenshot), the second button now reads "New Mail":
it opens a fresh compose window with the edited image
attached. "Save" still downloads the file to the system;
inside a draft everything stays the familiar "Save"/"Save
Copy".
Screenshot Straight into the Editor
The Focus view's snapshot mode gains a fourth button:
"Editor" sends the high-res selection straight into the image
editor – annotate, save or send via "New Mail". Snapshots are
handed to the editor as JPEG (white background): outputs are
named <document>-snapshot.jpg and are much smaller than PNGs
– ideal for mailing. Copy and Print in the snapshot bar stay
lossless PNG.
JPG Quality Goes Global
The "JPG Quality" slider in Settings now drives every
user-facing JPEG output: clipboard paste, editor export
(Save / New Mail), snapshots and Shrink. Internal thumbnails
and the print path keep their fixed values.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.6 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Focus View: Zoom & Fit Reworked
The configured document zoom ("Default Document Zoom") now acts as a
lower bound: whenever a pure width fraction would render the page
smaller than best fit – typical for landscape pages – it is enlarged
to the full view automatically. "Full Width" now fills exactly the
usable width without clipping the right edge (page margin and sidebar
are subtracted correctly). New default for fresh installs:
"2/3 Screen Width".
Fit Toggle Reversed
The first click on the Fit icon now zooms to full width; the second
restores exactly the opening view the document launched with in Focus
– consistently for PDF, DOCX, XLSX, images, HTML, CSV, GAEB and the
DOCX fallback. In the fallback (docx-preview) the base dimensions are
now read from the rendered page – the fit zoom no longer overshoots
when a document contains embedded images.
View Mode: Few Cards Centered
When View mode shows fewer attachments than the configured grid
count, the card group is now centered horizontally in the window
instead of hugging the left edge. Full grids, Archive and Draft are
unchanged.
Editor: Pan & Clean Overlay
While zoomed in, the middle mouse button pans the image (grab-and-pan)
– only inside the editor and only when actually zoomed. With the
editor open, neither the Zen context menu nor the Zen middle-click
toggle can fire underneath it.
Pull-Band Arrows as a Fidget
The sync arrows now follow the pull steplessly in both directions –
pulling down rotates forward, pushing back rewinds. At the release
point they snap quickly to an exactly vertical position; releasing
early rewinds them visibly instead of jumping back.
Draft Card
The sender entry now simply reads "Draft".
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.5 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image Editor for Draft Attachments
Images in a draft can now be edited right inside Att-Hub – no
external tools needed. The Edit button lives in the hover menu of
every image card and in the Focus view. The editor provides a full
draw mode: select, rectangle, ellipse, arrow, line, measure,
censor (pixelate), polygon, freehand and text – with color, fill,
stroke width and presets. Objects can be selected, moved, scaled
and rotated via a handle or slider; rotation is locked while
drawing.
Freehand & Text in Detail
All strokes of one freehand session are grouped into a single
object – a tool switch starts a new one. The result can be scaled
proportionally via corner handles. Text labels also attach to
line, arrow and measure tools – with placement, alignment, italic
style and font size.
Corrections, Zoom & History
Brightness and contrast in steps – a small indicator shows the
deviation from the original and resets it on click. Plus:
90° rotation, cropping, undo/redo down to the initial state and
press-and-hold original preview. Zoom via buttons with percentage
display or Ctrl+wheel centered on the cursor (Fit up to 3×);
stroke widths stay zoom-independent. The middle mouse button
remains reserved for autoscrolling.
Saving & Formats
"Save" replaces the original attachment at its position, "Save
Copy" stores a copy right behind it with automatic numbering
(-1, -2, …) – no ever-growing "(edited)" names. Uncommon formats
(HEIC, BMP, GIF, TGA, WebP …) are always converted to a common
format on save: PNG when transparent, JPEG otherwise – a HEIC
never stays HEIC. With nothing selected, the context bar shows
image info: file name, pixel size, bit depth, transparency and
file size.
Image Shrinking (Shrink)
New footer button in Draft view: mark any number of attachments –
only the images among them are processed. Pick the maximum edge
length (2560 down to 800 px); output is PNG when transparent,
JPEG otherwise. GIFs are skipped (their animation would be lost),
and a result is only applied when it is actually smaller – with a
short summary at the end.
More Robust Draft Handling
Attachment ids that change while editing are recovered by file
name; inline images are never touched during draft reordering.
After Save/Save Copy the gallery jumps to the new card instead of
scrolling back to the top.
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.8.1 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GAEB Support (X83, D83, P83 & Co.)
GAEB files are now a dedicated attachment type with a real preview:
a self-written parser reads GAEB DA XML (.x83) and the line-oriented
GAEB 90 format (.d83) – including GAEB 2000 (.p83) and all other
exchange phases. The bill of quantities renders as a structured,
colored document: header with format and phase, project data, nested
title groups and items with OZ, quantity, unit, unit/total price plus
short and long texts.
GAEB in the Gallery
GAEB cards show a real miniature bill of quantities as a full-opacity
thumbnail. Double-click and the Focus button open the Focus View at
120% initial zoom, with the usual zoom controls on top. Settings get
their own filter checkbox; existing GAEB attachments are reclassified
from "Other" at load time so nothing disappears.
GAEB Search & Print
Deep Search indexes the parsed content (OZ, texts, metadata) – older
GAEB files indexed as "other" are automatically re-queued. The Focus
View offers the magnifier search with match highlighting and
navigation. Zen printing outputs the structured document as
multi-page text, including colors and without tearing item rows.
GAEB files inside ZIP archives are detected correctly as well.
Gallery as a True Grid
The gallery now uses a fixed CSS grid: tiles always keep the
configured grid size – few attachments are no longer blown up, and
the last row aligns cleanly to the left instead of floating centered.
Also fixed: a completely grey gallery and a jumping scrollbar during
fast scrolling (the invisible spacer elements now correctly span the
full width).
Lean Thumbnail Pipeline
Thumbnail generation now runs through a bounded queue (max. 4
concurrent jobs) instead of unlimited parallel work – wild scrolling
no longer freezes Thunderbird. Priority follows the eye: fully
visible tiles first, top-left to bottom-right, then partially visible
ones, then a narrow preview ring around the viewport. Scrolling on
or searching anew discards stale jobs instead of catching up on them.
Search with Memory & History
New search history: a clock icon at the left of the search field opens
a dropdown of the last 10 searches (filtered while typing, keyboard
navigation, individually deletable). Entries are stored after 4s of
typing pause, on Enter, on clearing or on blur – no half-typed
fragments. Searching jumps the gallery to the top; clearing the
search restores the exact previous position. And: clicking a card
removes focus from the search field – the arrow keys steer the
gallery again right away.
Open ZIP/7z Directly
Double-clicking browsable archives opens the archive view; the Focus
button is active for that – including password-protected archives,
which ask for the password on open.
Instances & Windows Tidied Up
Containers are now called "Complete Archive" and "Always Hidden" (the
latter still absent in Draft/View). The "+" button is now "+ Instance"
with a clear window-with-plus icon and opens new workspaces in the
configured Default Launch Mode – the mode applies immediately to new
instances without hijacking the running one. Windows now always open
with a reachable title bar: oversized saved dimensions (e.g. from a
larger monitor) are clamped to the screen on open. When switching
tab↔window via the Switch View button, an open settings sidebar is
preserved.
Pull Band with a Feel for Space
The pull band adapts its drag sensitivity to the available screen
space: with little room left to the bottom edge, proportionally less
mouse travel is needed – the effect stays tangible everywhere.
Sync & Cleanup
A manual refresh may now run even during the startup grace period,
and with multiple instances the sync cycle automatically runs in only
one instance (a lock with successor logic on close).
ALREADY INCLUDED – Changes from 2.7.3 (never published)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Multiple Instances: Tabs & Windows (Opt-in)
Att-Hub can now run several independent workspaces side by side – as
tabs and as separate windows (handy for multi-monitor setups). The
feature is off by default ("Multiple instances (tabs/windows)" in
Settings) so beginners keep their overview; enabled, it becomes a real
power feature, e.g. two parallel attachment searches or Focus views.
"+" Button for New Workspaces
The "+" button opens a fresh, clean archive instance – inside a window
it spawns a window, inside a tab a tab. Switching between tab and
window (detach/dock) is always possible via the Switch View button and
carries the current context along.
Dedicated View & Draft Instances
Mail views and drafts are now their own instances that no longer
"consume" your archive: a draft stays bound to its compose window
(reused across tabs and windows), and views/drafts end cleanly when
their context ends. New buttons: "Go to Archive" jumps to the last-used
archive (or opens one), "Back to Mail" returns to the message and
closes the context instance. The standard Att-Hub button always brings
the most recently used instance forward – only "+" creates additional
archives.
Smart Window Management
New windows open slightly offset (cascade) so they never hide
invisibly on top of each other. The title bar always stays reachable –
saved positions are validated and corrected before opening (fixes
vanished title bars after maximize/restore). A guardrail caps the
total at 10 instances, and optionally Att-Hub cleans up itself:
"Close unused instances after 1h" closes idle archive instances after
one hour – never views or drafts, and the last archive always survives.
Faster Auto-Sync Interval
The default auto-sync interval was shortened from 5 minutes to
1 minute; a new 30-second option is available for powerful machines.
With multiple instances, indexing and sync automatically run in only
one instance (internal locks) – no duplicate work.
ESC Tamed
An accidental ESC no longer closes tabs/windows and no longer resets
the archive to its starting view. ESC now only performs local steps:
cancel a modal, leave Focus View, clear the search, go back a ZIP
level.
Sharper Photo Thumbnails
Image thumbnails are now downscaled in multiple steps and stored at a
higher JPEG quality – diagonal high-contrast lines and fine detail look
noticeably smoother (no more stair-stepping). Existing thumbnails are
regenerated automatically once; runtime cost is minimal.
Compact Card Action Bar Without Hover
The hover bar (Focus, Info, Open Mail) no longer covers card text: on a
checked card without the mouse over it, it shrinks to just the
checkbox – which now always sits at the far right and no longer jumps.
The active card also only shows the bar while hovered.
Drag & Scroll Rethought
Drag & drop onto containers only exists while the containers sidebar is
open – the only place it makes sense. With the sidebar closed, dragging
with the mouse held down scrolls the gallery with inertia (like in
Focus View); a simple click activates the card as before. During a drag
the gallery no longer edge-scrolls – instead the container list now
scrolls at its top/bottom edge so even far-away containers stay
reachable.
Focus View: Exact Return Position
Leaving Focus View now restores the gallery pixel-perfectly to its
previous position – the active card is right where it was before.
Decluttered Toolbar
The global "Focus View" button was removed – Focus View remains
reachable via the card button, double-click and the context menu.
Office Lock Files in Archives
Temporary Office lock files ("~$…") inside ZIP/7z archives are handled
correctly: they stay visible and extractable but no longer produce
parser-error thumbnails, showing a clear notice instead of an error.
