It does not work using TB Portable 17.08 with ascending order (oldest on top).Yes, it selects the last message but before downloading the new ones (pop)...

As the description says it only works on startup or when switching folders for the first time.
Perhaps it doesn't work the way you wanted it to, but it doesn't mean it doesn't work the way it intended to.
