1.0.0.1 works well with an English locale, but with a Swedish locale I get both "Mozilla Thunderbird" and the randomly generated name.

I'd like to retract my previous comment. This addon actually DOES WORK on Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (it was another extension, which wouldn't uninstall, that caused the problem).

doesn't work anymore: my Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 freezes as soon as you try to change the options of this addon.
Remember that you can change the user agent in the preferences without an extra addon:
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Config Editor...
then in the table click New -> String and enter "general.useragent.override" without quotes and in the next input enter whatever you like. You can see that this works when you read the header of a message in your Sent folder or when you send an email to yourself.

Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 crashes everytime when I click the Ok or Apply buttons in the Options dialog of the addon.
So, I can't change X-Mailer, User-Agent and other settings...
Fix it.

not only is this plugin extremely useful for testing purposes but also for my love life. my wife who uses the "display mail user agent plugin" is never going to know i am seeing my girlfriend because i can change the user agent to "microsoft exchange server". that way she wont be able to tell i am not at the office. perfect! you saved my love life and my marriage!
