Four stars, but used to be five! This has absolutely been one of my favorite extensions for Thunderbird. I just use it for personal use, but it heavily helps with classes, general communication, and responses to repetitive surveys or interactions with certain companies I send feedback to (building my responses out into a template that easily breaks everything down). I also use it for my signatures and other similar uses. I absolutely love this.
So why the drop of a star? It used to support a series of menus above the body of the message window, below the formatting tools. This allowed for quick access to all of the categories and snippets. But it has since been deprecated, I guess. Sadly, I was heavily programmed to using it this way, and now you have to use the right-click context menu, which suddenly feels like a severe handicap, limping around on a single deformed leg. It slows down my speed of things greatly for some reason. The process used to feel like a natural reflex, but now it makes my brain hurt as I try to reprogram myself after all this time. It isn't working, though :(
I still love the extension. It gives me everything I need for snippet access. I just miss the menu system.

Lieber John,
wäre es möglich, in dem Fenster „E-Mail verfassen” wieder den Toolbar für Quicktext einzufügen? Das war in der Vergangenheit sehr praktisch, um schneller auf diverse Texte in Quicktext zuzugreifen. Ansonsten kann man das Add-on nur empfehlen, weiter so!

A very useful addition. However, in version 153.2.0esr, the QUICK TEXT button disappeared below the subject line in new emails.

great product, use it a lot.
The only reason why I stick to thunderbird instead of outlook.
BUT, what happend to the old version of quicktext???
Why can't I import old scripts and templates outside the default storage location anymore?
I have my script and template file on a dropbox share with auto import on quick text.
so I have the same scripts on every computere, but that does not seem to work any more.
Is there a work around?

The way forward is to create a "local" storage using this provider: https://addons.thunderbird.net/de/thunderbird/addon/vfs-home-folder-access/?src=search
Or fund someone to create a dropbox provider directly (which would eliminate the filesystem round trip completely). We already have a WebDAV provider and a OneDrive provider.

Super Tool. Leider ist das Icon jetzt nicht mehr an der alten Stelle. Es wäre schön, wenn man das wählen könnte.

The only legacy component left in v6.9.* is the module used for data migration from the old storage to the new storage - and will be removed soon.
The toolbar you refer to is still available as an optional opt-in. It will remain legacy, since there is no other way, but I am no longer forcing users to use legacy tech.

This is one of my favorite extensions, which I use every day. But I don't see any compatibility with the latest version of Thunderbird 153.0esr on Linux Mint-001 - 1.0.
The extension management system says there are no updates available.
ATN clearly states that it is compatible:

One of the most useful plugins for Thunderbird. In the new version it is necessary to add the "Quicktext Legacy Companion" addon to have the menu bar which was positioned under the Subject line of a new email.

Great job! Works fine with Thunderbird 140 ESR and 148!
But I have one request: I’m using a 28-inch 4K monitor. The Quicktext Manager appears very small on it. A larger display or an adjustable setting would be great.

Great add-on. I have been using it every day for a long time.
After last update Thunderbird (to version 148) Quicktext version from Thunderbirds official site don't work. I instal beta version from github, but as wrote yotaka - Mar. 12, 2026:
"Previously, the template menu was aligned horizontally below the subject line in the email composition window, but it suddenly disappeared.
Now, there's only a lightning bolt icon in the toolbar."
Previously, the template menu had better location. Please restore it.
Please do not use the review system of the official version (which works fine with current Thunderbird 140 ESR), to comment on the Beta version, which you got elsewhere. Instead, check the Repository where you got the Beta from for help.

You manually installed a beta version from my GitHub page. You are now on v6.5.3 (probably, you can check in the details of the Quicktext add-on in the add-on manager). The last "official" version from here (ATN) is 6.4.
Please keep discussions about Beta versions out of the ATN review process, and instead go to my GitHub page, where you find this:

Question for Smex.
Following your advice, I followed all the instructions to change the 6.4 plugin and install it in Thunderbird 147.0.1. Unfortunately, as Manuel wrote, when manually installing the changed plugin with the number changed to "147" or "148," a message appears saying that the add-on cannot be installed because it appears corrupted.
I debugged the error with the Thunderbird tool and received the following message:
An error occurred during the temporary installation of the add-on.
Error Information
File C:\Users\quicktext-6.4-tb.xpi does not contain a valid manifest
This means that everything was probably done correctly, as you wrote, but Thunderbird currently doesn't accept the changed file.
I've repeatedly checked the entry in the changed "strict_max_version" line: "147.*," and everything looks identical to the original after changing the number. Do you have any idea what this might be about...?

you can update to the latest version quite easy. download the addon, rename it to zip, extract it, change in manifest json, change it to "strict_max_version": "149.*" . save it, pack it as zip, rename it to xpi and install manually. this is a temporary workaround until the new version is out.
