Installation sur Opensuse 15.5 Leap française: même phénomène: le logiciel est en anglais!
J'ai suivi les conseils données par 0dc9fd de Firefox le oct. 20, 2020:
1. supprimer le pack langage français incompatible (via Thunderbird);
2. desinstaller thunderbird via Yast;
3. redémarrer le système;
4. réinstaller thunderbird.
Tout est ok maintenant. Merci à l'auteur initial!
