At install:
1. Disable your default "Play Sound" (in Thunderbird Settings>General>Play Sound). This will allow the Add-on to play the different sounds you set when the Emails are received.
2. Creating Sound Filters with the Add-on:
- Inbox Only Sounds (or "General Inbox Sound" Filter) can be set either with the multi criteria Filter settings ("Any Sender", "Any Recipient", "Any Subject") or per "Folder" (NEW experimental). Optimal experience is when you create separate Email criteria Filters (" Custom Sender", "Custom Recipient", "Custom Subject").
The "General Inbox Sound" Filter is the Filter that is defined by "Any Sender", "Any Recipient", "Any Subject". This setting will play the same sound on all Emails received on the Email Account where you created the Sound Filter.
To further fine tune specific Emails to be played with other sounds you need to create additional multi criteria Filters inside each Email Account: "Sender Email", "Subject: XYZ...".
There is no specific priority order of the sub filters necessary to be kept, they can be set and positioned chaotically. The improved code logic would play correctly regardless which filter is on top.
3. Context Menu (Mouse Right Click on Email) "Create Sound Filter" on a selected Email from Main Thunderbird Email View.
This creates a new Sound Filter pre-selecting the Email Account from where the Right Click was made and all other Email criteria also pre-filled out.
4. Using Thunderbird native Filters is compatible fully:
Optimal functionality is when you set them to "Getting New Mail" or "Periodically, every 10 minutes " or "Manually Run" the Sonud Filter Add-on would function equally well.
5. Offline Emails
- improved the functionality so that Emails received when Thunderbird was offline would play the defined Filter Sounds as soon as Thunderbird is started and Emails synced. Some Email sounds might be played with slight delay.
