About this Add-on
The Australian English Dictionary, or AussieDic, is a modern Australian English spelling dictionary for Firefox.

Australian English is often assumed to follow British spelling conventions, so it can be surprising to find it has conventions of its own. The Australian Government Style Manual sets out spelling standards that sometimes differ from those used in the UK.
Program is the standard spelling in Australian English, whereas British English traditionally uses programme outside computing. Other examples, with the Australian spelling listed first, include:
- aging / ageing
- livable / liveable
While the two varieties share many conventions, Australian English has developed its own standards and preferences. British English is not uniform either, as vocabulary, pronunciation and usage vary considerably across the UK. Australian English is best understood as a distinct variety that shares much with British English rather than a copy of it.
A note on the word list
The dictionary is intended to cover the full range of coloUrful language used in Australia. It therefore includes profanity, slang and offensive terms that may not suit everyone. Please don’t report the extension or send complaints about this content. If you don’t type those words, they won’t be flagged.
