Is the plug-in lonely? The pitfalls of MetaClean for Thunderbird
You install a plug-in to improve efficiency and protect your privacy, but MetaClean for Thunderbird ends up “sealing” your mailbox?
As this user GVS said:
“The IMAP mailbox went on strike, emails can't be sent, they get stuck in the Sent folder and don't move. Disabling the plug-in instantly makes things smooth again.”
You read that right, it's not your computer that's stuck, it's the plug-in that's causing problems. You think it's silently purifying metadata in the background, but in fact it's silently interfering with everything you do in the foreground. What's even more outrageous is that you don't even know if it's actually successfully purging metadata. It's almost metaphysical, and it's even more of a hassle than just using the online version of this tool at https://MetadataRemover.org.

Who knows if it works? There is one problem with it that has made me stop using it:

IMAP accounts can randomly and completely stop responding when this add-on is active. For example, you compose a message and go to send it and then it wants to copy the message to the SENT folder. It will just hang there for hours. If you disable the add-on it immediately copies the message to the sent folder. I have the same issue when I choose to compact my IMAP folders.

When I disable this add-on IMAP accounts work perfectly; when it is enabled I have issues like the above randomly.
