Great and useful add-on!

All other people claim that this extension isn't needed are wrong.
There is no TASKS support provided in Thunderbird.
Although this extension works, the fact that this extension has FULL access to my complete computer and filesystem has me worried.
Therefor I won't be installing.

I can understand that. It is not wrong, in theory the add-on *could* do anything, so the permission needs to sound scary. This is required because Thunderbird is lacking extension APIs for calendaring. So I need to use the legacy extension system, which can integrate tightly with Thunderbird itself, and has the same permissions as Thunderbird itself.

I'm trying to change this by writing the APIs and hope either I or someone else from Thunderbird will find time to integrate them. Then it will just say something like "full access to your calendar" or something like that.

The source code for this add-on is available at https://github.com/kewisch/gdata-provider/tree/legacy to verify, and if you prefer non-code trust signals note I've been working for/with Thunderbird for almost 20 years. You can find more information about me on Linkedin or other sources.

I installed this because it can connect to Google Tasks, which the inbuilt calendar function of Thunderbird cannot. However, it does this in a completely useless way. The tasks are simply displayed in one long and undifferentiated list. Nor do any tasks with a date or time actually appear on the calendar. In other words, the integration with Google Tasks is so inadequate as to be completely useless, which means that this add-on offers nothing that isn't already built into Thunderbird, and is therefore pointless.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (128.5.5).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

This add-on simply connects Thunderbird and Google Tasks. How Thunderbird displays tasks is beyond my control. I'd need to write a whole new tasks view instead of integrating into Thunderbird. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194863 is what needs to be fixed, then I can integrate subtasks.

You can make tasks appear in the calendar view by going to View > Calendar > Current View > Tasks in View. It is pretty hidden unfortunately.

There is one shortcoming related to task dates/times not showing, which in turn is a missing field in Google's Task API.

Now that all probably doesn't help a bit for usability, and I'd love to see this look/work better in Thunderbird, but I wanted to explain why I haven't done more in this area :)

Perhaps I'm missing something but why is this app needed? Google Calendars work without it..

Things were working OK, but just picked up a new update, and now inviting attendees to a calendar event is all screwed up. Also have events on my Google calendar visible on my phone that do not show up in Thunderbird now.

It turns out Thunderbird already supports Google Calendar by default:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-lightning-google-calendar

No need for any add-ons!

I followed the steps from the How To and added my calendar without any issues.

It is now natively supported and smoothly syncing with Google Calendar!

Fonctionnait très bien depuis longtemps, mais depuis quelques jours, la connexion à Google est demandée à chaque fois que je démarre Thunderbird.
J'ai nettoyé le cache, réinstallé le plugin, sans succès.

While Thunderbird breaks this and other plugins with their updates, this works well most of the time.

A restart of Thunderbird (128.8.1esr, Windows 10) after clearing the cache (from Help - Troubleshooting Information - Clear startup cache) has resolved the problem which I had with add-in V128.5.2 starting yesterday (no sync with Google calendar, no possibility to enter events on remote calendar, could not dismiss reminders). I did not have to update to Thunderbird 136, but had to re-authenticate with Google after restart, of course. I am so glad it works again !

After auto-update in Thunderbird 128.8.1esr all calendars did not work. The Google Oauth2 password pop-up gave an error "The browser you're using doesn't support JavaScript, or has JavaScript turned off..."
I could resolve this by switching the advanced setting "javascript.enabled" from false to true, and after re-activating the calendars I could swith it off again with no further issues so long.
So it works fine for me again - thanks a lot to Philipp!
