It's a very very nice Add-on: my compliments to the creator! Unfortunately, after last update to TB 78.2.2 (64bit) the Zombie Keys is not working anymore.

Thank you for years of hard work. This was a joy, even when there was no UI element (can't say i needed one) in SeaMonkey.
Belongs in the core browser.

I wish I'd given you a 5-star review back when I had the chance when I used Firefox proper. I've been using Zombie Keys for years, but hadn't had any need for foreign accents for ages; now I discover that it's not working in e10s for most parts of the browser (Waterfox).

A great add-on for anyone who needs to enter non-ASCII characters.
Have used Zombie Keys for ~9 years. Initially chose it because of MS-Office compatibility.
Very happy with how it works and with the level of support and enhancement over the years. Updates are very timely, to keep up with new versions of TB and FF.
Also very happy that it seems to work in any input field in FF or TB, including email composition, search engine input, HTML form input in Firefox (such as Google Maps input field), and so on.
... as once Firefox forces MultiProcess windows, we cannot easily inject content into the browser anymore. Which means there will have to be a major rewrite of that part of the addon. But I still intend to support the "privileged parts" which also includes things like search boxes in Thunderbird and of course the Composition Window. The other problem on the horizon will be the deprecation of XUL addons (Firefox 57) I am hoping that I can still keep Zombie Keys alive and offer all the functionality then. If not, then there is always the Pale Moon fork!

Very useful extension - and Axel has proved to be very quick at sorting out bugs :)

This extension is great!
If you want to do things like this on the Chrome browser there's an extension called AccentsPlus:

Thanks!
Makes multilingual use of Firefox so much easier.

I love this extension. Unfortunately, it has ceased to work in FF 10 (both Beta 1 and Beta 2). I first noticed this when trying to create "é" (I ended up with an "e", but no accent); I then tried a number of combinations, and none work.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.8.1-signed.1-signed).The Reviewer has contacted me and I found out this issue was affecting gmail only; I found a fix which will be released in version 2.10.
For contacting me about problems like this, use the Zombie key toolbar button and the bottom menu "go to the Zombie Keys support site..." then you mail me from the bottom of each page. The toolbar button can also help to figure out what the correct shortcut would be - but make sure you have the correct keyboard layout configured!

Please, raise compatibility for Thunderbird 5 and higher.

With an English keyboard, I need to use ctrl+alt+ key for an acute accent and ctrl+' for a grave accent. The umlaut works fine as advertised with ctrl+shift+:
Useful add-on once this is understood!

It works pretty well (I'm keeping it), but with some reservations.
On a UK keyboard it doesnt work exactly the same as MS (word at any rate).
for example in word you do indeed press Cntrl+grave`,e to get e grave
in zombiekeys TB you need to press Cntrl+@,e to get e grave. If I feel keen I'll post the complete set another time. It does seem odd that it isnt exactly the same, but then I never understood keyboard mappings.
On a full keyboard with a number pad you can just as easily use the Alt0123 type shortcuts. But with a laptop this is tedious to the point of impracticality. 8/10
This is now better addressed by customized key mappings which will be specific for a specific keyboard layout. In version 2.5 in UK (and Irish) layouts you can now use CTRL+' and CTRL+# (adjacent keys) for à and á. Also CTRL+SHIFT+^ for â and CTRL+SHIFT+@ for å. CTRL+SHIFT+~ is a little problematic as it is used in Firefox to toggle through tab groups, so this is likely going to be changed to CTRL+ALT.
The important fact is that it should be possible to use the key combos in these keyboard layouts, as the generated key codes are actually different depending on keyboard locale. When used frequently as part of a language, the combos should be easy to remember (I always use ä, ö and ü when writing German) but for the less frequently used combos (or the ones occupied by application hot keys) , the toolbar button gives quick access to them.
I am hoping to add more keyboard locales in the future, depending on user requests.

one of the best foreign character implementation. Like somebody else mentioned a little help file would be nice, like the picture in the image gallery.

Zombie Keys 1.1.4 is excellent for Spanish. It works fine in TB 3.0.10. It implements the keyboard shortcuts for accented letters and special punctuation exactly like MS Word 2003 and 2007 do. It is much quicker to use than abcTajpu. Also, it will do the characters ö, ü, ¡, and ¿ by a single keyboard stroke where abcTajpu requires a multi-step menu selection. --jreid

This is a great little add-on, one of my favourites! You can use the tweak linked by helloworld.c and it works without problems ( but don't try to enable everything else! )

This extension should be integrated in the next version of Firefox (3.0). I cannot wait anymore for the support of international support in FF3. Please update the extension... Please..

Wonderful addition for Firefox. It fills in that big void you feel when your favorite web browser limits you to your plain English keyboard characters. Does its purpose well and characters are entered just like in Word, so there's nothing new to learn if you've already been doing that.
