HttpFox

One of the most brilliant and most useful extensions I've ever used! Please keep up your excellent work, I hope this soon leaves the sandbox!
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.0).VideoDownloader
Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Most people recommend this extension as THE video downloading tool - I don't understand why. It only works with the most popular video portals and when I click the download button, it opens a WEBpage in CHROME context, which alone is rather bad. Even worse, I have no control nor knowledge about which data is sent to the website which generates the download links.
I clearly prefer DownloadHelper (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006). This one has a completely different and much smarter approach: It intercepts the browser's communication when requesting video files (i.e. analyzes request/response headers) and gets the address where the video is actually located. One advantage of this method is that nothing needs to be sent to an external website and no web content is executed in chrome contest. But more important for most users is the fact that it works on nearly every site that offers flash videos, not on ONLY the "60+ video sites" that VideoDownloader can handle.
Because of the reasons above - this extensions has not only a privacy, but also a potential security flaw - and since it does not support most "less popular" portals, I rated VideoDownloader 2 and can only repeat that I think it wrongly gained the focus it has.
