Nice addon. Can you please add displaying the message body(2-3 lines) as well?

Love this addon - combined with a high quality TTS voice and the speak display for growl new emails are actually announced to me - which it great while I'm working.
A lot of others did notice the limitations of not being able to filter things. This addon also growls before junk filtering so you get lots of notices for things you probably don't want. Maintenance of the addon seems to have stopped so I forked up a github and added some of these features. Hopefully It's ok to share that here for anyone that wants it:

Great add-on! Working as advertised. Would possibly like some more customization as others have mentioned.
Also, it is not registering with Growl using the Thunderbird icon. Instead I just get some generic "globe-networking" icon. I de-registered TB from Growl, uninstalled the add-on, hacked it, then reinstalled it, re-registered with Growl, but it's still not using the correct icon. It's really bugging me! Otherwise really good!
Growl - 2.1.1
Thunderbird - 24.0.1
OSX - 10.8
----
Update: Started seeing the "Drafts" issue that @Anthirian reported below. I also support being able to ignore certain folders, as this was quite annoying when composing a lengthy email. System updated to TB 24.1.0, and OSX 10.9.

I only wanted notifications for specific emails, which this currently does not provide. After some searching, I ended up using another extension 'FiltaQuilla' (which allows you to create a filter to launch a program) along with GrowlNotify (http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/help/growlnotify.aspx).
Hope this helps others who need to filter out their notifications.

Great work, the growl notifications are much much better than the stock TB notifications.
Would love to see more options like: open email in main window, filters, first X characters of message body. But still, very useful addon.
Update: More often than not when I click an alert the associated email/rss item does not open, nothing happens or sometimes a blank window opens. If this was fixed I'd give it 5 stars.

It's a great addon. I would like to make a feature request as well while I'm at it. Would it be possible to allow for ignoring certain folders? The reason I ask is I currently have Thunderbird set to automatically save a draft each minute. This means the addon will Growl every minute as well, since a new message appeared in the Drafts folder. The same is true for the Sent Items folder when I send an email. I would like to ignore both these folders so I only get Growls from mails I receive.

I have growlforwindows but I cant type into the password field when I do growl/gntp preferences in the addon... so I can register it for notifications. Too bad, I really wanted to use this
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.1).Unless you have set up GfW to require local apps to require a password (Security tab), then you dont need to specify the password. (You are correct though that the password field is unselectable - the password functionality has been disabled and I have not yet removed the input box).

No Growl -- not even a purr -- on Postbox 1.1.5 front end for Thunderbird, running on OSX 10.6, even though it is listed as compatible on the Postbox web site.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.0).This plugin is not intended to work with Thunderbird or Postbox running on OSX. It requires a notification client that supports the GNTP protocol; however, Growl on OSX does *not* yet support that protocol. The Postbox website does not specifically say this plugin works with OSX - it simply says: "Sends GNTP (Growl) notifications when new messages or feed items arrive."
Growl on OSX is planning to support GNTP in their next major release (v2.0). At that time, this plugin should automatically work with Growl on OSX.

Doesn't growl at all.

Hi,
could you maybe detail what you mean by dev build of growl for OSX? I cloned the growl source and have dev v1.2.1hg4745 of growl running, but it does not work with this plugin. It seems to me that growl for OSX does not have GNTP support yet, cf: http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20013. Does this plugin also support the older UDP proto by any chance, or could you write one, as it seems that GNTP support for OSX is not gonna be anytime soon? Right now there is no way to get growl notifications for TB on the mac, as the other plug does not work with TB3 - that's very sad :(

Will this support Thunderbird 3? The new TB notifies the user "1 new message from ____" but doesn't have the option to add a preview of the message or at least the subject line... I guess this is a feature request, but it would be really great to see the subject line.

This add-on is very useful, I use it with Growl for Windows and Prowl client for the iphone.
I setup my two Gmail accounts so that they get pushed to Thunderbird using the Idle Imap trick and then Growl pushes it to my iphone. It takes about 10 seconds for an email to pop up on my iphone.
I also added an RSS feed to my Twitter feeds and those get pushed as well.
