Deeply missing functionality in Thunderbird. Not sure what the alleged workarounds are, I see none. I want to see my Favorites AND my Unified Folders at the same time, just like the picture here and in Outlook. That is, more than one Folder ideally, and I can choose what I show in each one, so I can see them at the same time.

This looks like an ideal solution to facilitate efficient use of TB.
I have 23 email accounts that I use, and I use unified view all the time. I would love to add an extra pane with my favorite folders in it. This way, I could take advantage of both the unified view AND be able to use folders efficiently. Now, the use of folders is out of the question, because they are buried down deep, and I never check them.
I would gladly pay to someone who could come up with the same solution that would work in TB3+.
This extension is seeking for a new maintainer. If you find one, let me know! http://code.google.com/p/afview/

The Add-on 'Extra Folder Columns' ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/9716 ) has a similiar functionality for all/unread/favorite/recent folders

Excellent add-on. Unfortunately it does not work on TB 3+. Hopefully it will be updated soon.

Been using it for ages under 2, and as a review I would give it 4.5 as the views don't always update properly/automatically.
Anyways, another request to update to TB3 please. :)
I tried modifying the rdf to allow 3, but the window just sits blank.

This is really great, but doesn't work under TB 3.0. Can you please update it?

This is exactly what I am missing in Thunderbird. Very simple to use and very effectively. I don't need to click-and-click if I want to see "unread messages" and "full mailbox tree". Everything is on my screen. And next improvements? I can suggest only to add possibility to show more then two panels. Great plug-in to great mailbox client.

The idea is simply doubling up the functionality of thew folder plane one the left - I am not quite sure whether this is too useful, as it halves the scrollable area - I guess you can set it up similar to outlook where you can have a "favorite" panel on top of the folders. One problem with this approach that if you need shortcuts because of an overly populated folder tree, you actually worsen the problem by taking away valuable vertical scroll space.
Another problem is that both folder panels seem to compete for focus so you need to look twice in order to know which folder you are currently in. I have had a brief look at the source code and saw that it(temporarily) overwrites some global helper method GetFolderTree - this code is not thread safe, which means that it can break other extensions or the behavior of Thunderbird itself.
onSelect: function(aEvent) {
var tmp = GetFolderTree;
GetFolderTree = gAFViewOverlay.additionalFolderTree.ref;
FolderPaneSelectionChange(aEvent);
GetFolderTree = tmp;
},
instead of doing this, the author should consider copying the functionality of the FolderPaneSelectionChange function so that it is used for his own Folder Pane.
If you are using the additional folder tree mainly for shortcuts, I would also suggest to try QuickFolders. It does a better job for laying out quick dragable folder locations in a space saving and practical manner - as it creates a multi dimensional / tabbed area similar to Tab Mix Plus and the Personal Bookmark Toolbar.

Simple, Perfect extension - without trying to be over ambitious. Just what I was looking for - A summary of all my folders across all of my accounts which have unread messages in them. Please "legege" keep this extension up to date and working with all future versions of T-Bird - it's now a must have extension. (Working fine for me Under 2.0.0.21)

While the add on does indeed show the list of Favourites when Thunderbird starts, as soon as you access one of these folders, the view changes back to the All Folders view, although the label of the block still says Favourite Folders. This makes the app. all but useless. This needs to be fixed before it can work properly. If it is fixed this will be a great app. but at the moment it is worthless.

I don't use the Unread Folders that apparently has a bug ... the Favorite Folders view is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

Please update this add-on. This has problems with 2.0.0.17 :(

As others have mentioned, this panel doesn't update itself. After reading all the unread e-mails in its Unread view, the folders are still displayed - unless you toggle to a different one of its views and return or change focus to a folder in a different panel. There is no on-the-fly update of this add-on's panel. It requires forcing a manual repaint of this panel. Also, I don't see the point of this add-on. I have Tbird 2.0.0.16. There are already All, Unread, Recent, and Favorite view for this standard Folders panel.

Known issue: Remove folders from the Unread Folders view when the folder has been read.
No change for more than a year (version 0.2.3: June 14th, 2007)! Is there still any development?

This is great. What would make it perfect for me is the ability to display All Folders in the pane. Thanks!

With the unread folders each time I click on actual unread folder it then swaps to showing the entire folder tree within this mini window.
A great shame.
I have 20 plus email addresses and maybe it this that is causing the problem.

I only gave a 9 cause I would like the ability to add more than just 1 new folder box.
This add-on is really useful and I wish I had 3 folder box (at least :P )
Thanks

This add-on is simple but brilliant. I keep my Favorite Folders in the top pane, and it makes it a breeze to just drag messages from whatever the open folder is to where I want to file it. BTW, contrary to an earlier review, the Favorites Folder is in alphabetical order.
