always ".com" - Google.com (in English) 20150101
by portuguesemike
Tired of being redirected to a local Google site when you specifically want Google.com?
Use "Google dot com", not "dot something else". Use Google.com, in English, without being redirected to a country-specific Google site when you're not in the US.
About this Add-on
I just submitted a new version of this search plugin which uses the "encrypted.google.com" url as a workaround for persistent "dot com". I've been playing around with the new parameters and, while I could get the initial search to open up in "google.com" regardless of the user's IP, subsequent searches performed on the page opened up in their local flavour of Google. For more info on "encrypted.google.com", here's a relevant post on stackexchange.
Hope this helps for now.
Search Bar and Context Menu:
By adding and using "Google.com (in English)", all searches performed with the Search Bar and via the Context Menu in Firefox will use "encrypted.google.com" and not a local Google site such as "www.google.pt", or "www.google.co.uk", or "www.google.ca", or any other to which you might be redirected by default.
Home Page:
If you want your Home Page to stick to the ".com" as well, use can use "http://encrypted.google.com/" or "http://www.google.com/ncr" as your browser's Home Page. For a ".com" Home Page without Google Suggest, you can use the "complete=0" parameter.
