I've been using this theme with Thunderbird on KDE4 for a couple of years now. I like the clean, integrated look it provides, but it's not altogether complete. For example, the message list displays no icons for read and unread messages - only for messages replied to or forwarded. All-in-all, I'd give it a four star rating.

Unfortunately, a version compatible with Thunderbird 5 is unavailable from Mozilla Add-ons. For that you'll have to go to https://github.com/merike/oxybird2/tree/master/oxybird-linux-2.1. Ignore "oxybird-linux-2.1.jar"; it's not a valid Java archive file. Instead you'll have to download the source file.

After you've unzipped the source file archive, locate the valid .jar file in sub-folder oxybird-linux-2.1. Curiously, the theme shows up as "OxyBird2 (version) 3.0" in the Add-ons Manager for Thunderbird 5. Worth the effort? Sure, but it brings my overall rating down to three stars.

oxybirg look nice, but i have pbm with it, it shows unchecked box for checked box and vice versa... it's a little disturbing... take care of that!

In my view, the Sunbird default icons are more visually meaningful. OXY is just "OK" fo me. That said, it is one of the better attempts at an alternative theme and appears to be fully functional.

Really cool. Clean, glossy buttons that are easily recognized and do not need text labels. Best part is that it leaves the OS native scrollbars and selection colours.

This is one of the few Thunderbird themes that actually improves on the default. Others tend toward the garish or cartoonish, and I just want something that looks nice.

C'est bien accordé avec le thème Oxygene de KDE 4.x mais les barre de défilement disparaissent dès qu'on les survole avec la souris avec KDE 4.2 beta 2. Le probleme a reussi a être reglé avec firefox 3 donc cela devrait être possible de la même manière avec thunderbird

I can't really decide between my two favorite Thunderbird themes:

Crossover X and OxyBird, but for now I'm using OxyBird (could switch back and forth), it's much more aesthetically pleasing than the default Thunderbird theme.

Wish I could learn more about Oxygen's icon set, their website is kind of limited on info!
