ThunderAI Privacy is a Thunderbird add-on, designed to add privacy features to ThunderAI.
This add-on requires the following add-ons to work properly:

ThunderAI Privacy is a companion add-on for ThunderAI. It adds a local privacy filter that protects your personal data before it reaches any AI provider.
How it works
Before ThunderAI sends a prompt, ThunderAI Privacy scans the text and replaces personal data (names, email addresses, phone numbers, card numbers and more) with anonymous placeholders. The AI provider only sees the masked text. When the response comes back, the original values are put back in place, so you read a normal answer.
Detection runs entirely on your computer and combines two methods:

How it works
Before ThunderAI sends a prompt, ThunderAI Privacy scans the text and replaces personal data (names, email addresses, phone numbers, card numbers and more) with anonymous placeholders. The AI provider only sees the masked text. When the response comes back, the original values are put back in place, so you read a normal answer.
Detection runs entirely on your computer and combines two methods:
- a multilingual AI model for named entity recognition, run locally with Transformers.js (using the GPU via WebGPU when available, otherwise the CPU);
- deterministic rules for structured data such as email addresses, phone numbers and card numbers.
Requirements
- ThunderAI 5.2.0 must be installed: this add-on does nothing on its own.
- 64-bit Thunderbird. The 32-bit version does not have enough memory to run the model.
- On first use, the model (about 600 MB) is downloaded from Hugging Face and stored locally in the add-on's cache.
- The filter works with the API integrations (OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, Ollama, OpenAI-compatible). It does not apply to ChatGPT Web.
