OpenLanguageToolClient is an open-source and free LanguageTool client for Thunderbird, and for nothing else.
It underlines the mistakes a LanguageTool server reports in the compose window. Click an underlined word and the corrections come up in a panel, with the reason for the mistake. The context menu offers the same corrections. A window lists every mistake of the message, with where it sits and what a correction would touch.
It needs a LanguageTool server, and it ships with none. You enter its address in the settings. It can be your own instance, your organization's, or a public LanguageTool service. No address is built in.
Only the text you wrote is sent. Quotes and signature are left out, so a long thread stays fast.
What it does not do: AI rephrasing, synonyms, writing statistics, emoji suggestions, telemetry, A/B tests, accounts and subscriptions, and websites outside Thunderbird.
Free software, GPL v3 or later. No dependency, no bundler, no remote code.
