I used this plug-in and basically depended on it, until it stopped working with Thunderbird 45. I just noticed that it was recently updated, and it is working again! I am very happy about this! Thank you!
I will give more details later on comments on usability as I start using it again, because this is an already great plug-in that has great potential.

I really find this add-on to be useful. But I really would like the ability to limit the folders to just the ones I use the most. I use all of my folders, because I like to organize my emails by types so I can easily find them. That means that eventually, all of the folders (or some limit of them, if there is a limit in the code) will get added to the side pane. I think this add-on would be more than awesome if there was a way to manually make changes, or add in restrictions.
Ideally,
* Specify which folders to keep in the side pane
* Choice to remove or add folder to side pane
* Sort the folders
* Limit number of folders
