Safely delete Thunderbird messages by account, folder, and date range. Preview results, protect or delete matching messages by subject and sender, and schedule daily retention cleanup with permanent IMAP deletion.

1. Open it by clicking the Thunderbird space bar icon.
2. Select an email account and a folder (i.e. 'Trash').
3. Choose a start and end date. Both dates are included.
4. Optionally add subject words, phrases, sender names, or email addresses.
5. Choose whether matching messages should be protected or whether only matching messages should be deleted.
6. Click Preview messages to delete to review the number of affected messages.
7. Click Delete permanently and confirm the warning.
Permanent deletion cannot be undone. For IMAP accounts, including Gmail, deletion is synchronized according to the account configuration and server synchronization cycle.
---Automatic cleanup
Enable Automatic deletion to remove messages older than a chosen number of days, months, or years. Emptying runs the enabled retention rule every 24 hours while Thunderbird is open.
The automatic rule uses the selected folder and the same subject and sender rules configured in the panel.
---Languages
Emptying starts in English. Users can switch between English and Spanish from the language selector in the add-on panel.
---Privacy
Emptying runs locally in Thunderbird. It does not transmit, sell, share, or upload messages, account data, settings, analytics, or telemetry.
