RemindIt is a Thunderbird extension that helps you track email replies. It lets you set reminders on messages you send or receive, with automatic cancellation when a reply arrives. Tracked emails are displayed in red when overdue, orange if soon.

This is a great extension ! Hope that TB3+lightning will be even better !
Some fix in locale are needed. For exemple for french, I had to add some menuitem definition in locale/fr/calendar/calendar.dtd :
calendar.context.modifyevent.label
calendar.context.gototoday.label
