If you get this message when trying to install the add-on:

"Copy Plain Text 0.3.3 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.0.11."

After some research on Google, what worked for me was this:

1. Download the .xpi file (right-click on "Add to Firefox", Save Link As...)
2. Unzip the .xpi file and you will find install.rdf
3. Locate the entry for , beneath
4. Bump the version number by replacing 2.0 with 4.0
5. Save the changes. With the new .xpi file you should be able to install the add-on

Note: I do not know if this is risky, or if there are side effects, but it seems to work for me.

Unlike some other user in comments, it works just fine for me in Firefox 3.0.10, and if you take a look in the options, you can set it to default copy action and some other stuffs.

So it's a useful good addon !

This a heavily used addon back in the Firefox 1.x days. I wish someone would tweak it to work with Firefox 3.0.5.

This is such a neat and powerful tool and has been a favorite of mine throughout the years and versions. Jeremy Gillick has written a number of supremely simple and clever add-ons. Here's a suggestion for a new one: If one could copy a sentence from a page together with the embedded link to that page, it would be supremely useful. This is the SOP for the better bulletin boards and blogs, and with Google docs becoming a more useful tool, I find myself always making two trips to a page to take notes: One to copy a bit of text, and the other trip to get the URL.
But again - thank you, Mr. Gillick, for this great add-on.

Have just clean installed Firefox 3.0.5.
On installing Copy Plain Text 0.3.3 Firefox tells me that it is "Not compatible with Firefox 3.0.5".

Thank you! This is such a simple tool and yet removes the tedious step of having to paste my clipboard into Notepad, then copy it again to get just the "plain text".
