I love this in Windows 7. Absolutely well done to the developer on this one.
The only option I miss having that I used on the minimize taskbar addon is the ability to minimize after clicking on the close button. Add this feature in and I'll give you 5 stars!

Minimize on start and close doesn't work under Firefox 25, we hope KF Savje can make some change!

edit, have to say this is a very useful addon, really like having the browser minimize on startup, and being able to minimize from the Esc keys also great, really intuitive option to have
to iynque above, if its triggering a popup that your about to close xx number of tabs, like its going to close Firefox instead of minimize, thats just cause youve got the Options/Tabs "Warn me when closing window with multiple tabs" ticked. Youll notice if you click "Cancel" on that popup, it proceeds to minimize tho. Untick that option and itll minimize without any more

This is exactly what I want.
So much so that I have substantially delayed upgrading my Tbird, because "Minimize on Close" doesn't work with new versions (e.g. 17.0.7)
Comments/Reviews have made note of this for more than 18 months. Is there really no alternative?? Can no one take the source code and update this Add On?? I wish I had the computer hacking skills to do it myself.

Feature request: Can you please add an option to close all tabs and navigate to homepage upon closing? I use this add-on to avoid waiting for firefox to start - so there's a difference for me between choosing to minimize (and keep everything opened) and closing (minimizing in the initial state).
Thanks!!

Is not working. TB 17.0.6

Thunderbird 17.0.4
Everything works as claimed under Windows 7 except for X which closes the program instead of minimizing. Although bugs are not meant to be posted here, I cannot find where else to post them.

Works fine on Firefox 19. You have to have a Windows 7 aero theme active though.

Minimize on Close (X) does not work with a non Aero-Design.
However minimize on Esc works.

Did not work with 17.0, however, DOES seem to work with 17.0.2. Running Tbird on Windows8.

I confirm that useful "minimize on close" option is not working with TB17 (on Win XP only ?). Can you fix it please ? TIA

Excellent extension, works very well. I've also hacked it to add an option to close all tabs on minimize and to close a window if more than one window is active. Contact me on gmail under juandfrias if you are interested and most likely improve my hacked version.

Please make it close all open tabs and then minimize the window. That way it opens up like a fresh window similar to Mac OS X.

This is better than minimize-to-tray because with minimize-to-tray we always have to look in 2 places to see whether we have firefox windows: the taskbar and the system tray. Mac OS-X made a combined bar and windows 7 (& vista) partly followed suit.
It would be nice if we had the option to allow us to close any windows normally *except the last remaining window* which would normally cause us to exit.
Another thing I'd love to see is a Restart-on-Close. When you close all your windows and firefox would normally exit, this is a perfect time to Restart firefox and when it comes back up I'd want it to start minimized so in effect it looks like you've simply minimized it but in fact it restarted first. The benefit is that it clears out unneeded memory from firefox and it often runs more smoothly than if you've been keeping it running continuously. It should be the session-preserving restart like the one offered by the add-on manager (or by justin Ƨullivan's "Restart Firefox" addon but not most others), so it preserves tabs and also session cookies, etc.

Just found that the plugin disables right click and drop menus at "Get mail" and "Tags" buttons at Ubuntu 12.04 Thunderbird 14.0. In addition I found that sometimes I can't open Thunderbird from unity panel, only when I right click -> Quit and then click on it again. Except for these problems the plugin does its job.

I am using Windows 7 and yes, this add-on does better than the other minimize add-ons because it works more like Windows 7.
The big thing for me is that most programs with a minimize option allow clicking the X to minimize, as does this add-on. The other Thunderbird minimize icon disables the X - which is annoying because that's different from most other applications on Windows.
