As of 25 August 2012, this extension does not work. Also, after the required reboot of Firefox, a new page opened and automatically downloaded 2 .exe files to my computer without notification or permission. Watch out for 'mp3gain.exe' (the mp3 volume normalizer) and 'ffmpeg.exe', which has no description.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.6.2.1-signed).ffmpeg.exe is the software used to convert the youtube video to an MP3. You can read more about it here: http://ffmpeg.org/. mp3gain.exe comes from a well respected sourceforge project. It is used to fix the volume (aka 'Normalize') the mp3. You can view the project page here: http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/. My ffmpeg.exe is slightly different than what you'd get if you built it from their project. I turn off the console output so you don't see an ugly black console window everytime you convert an mp3 :P.
My apologies for the confusion and the troubles your having with the plugin. I am working on enhancing the download feature. Right now google is rapidly changing their web site, and it's difficult for me to keep up around my job right now. I'm working on some enhancements that should fix it for years to come though.

The first time I installed, it did not work. I removed it, restarted and reinstalled. Now it works quickly and without complication.
I also see that it can do longer downloads (like 1:20:00)
Sometimes I get an annoying animated GIF and it adds an unnecessary icon to my address bar. Those are my biggest complaints.
If you haven't already please uninstall and reinstall the plugin from Tools -> Add Ons. If it still does not work Turn on debugging as described on http://www.glimmersoft.com/podcaster/help.html, try a few downloads, then turn off debuging and send me the file "youtubeMP3Podcaster.trel.sqlite" from your extensions folder. A set of blue links below the screen (instead of another button) ask what you want to do, opens a download window. There's even a way of cutting off an opening that's too long! So easy, gotta love it! Easy, unobtrusive, just terrific.

Beats all the Youtube audio extractors I've used until now. It doesn't link to a third party site as many others do and performs the conversion to mp3 from within the application itself.
I also like the Scissors utility which allows you to edit where the audio is extracted from. Anyone who has listened to Moby - "Mistake" will know that the video runs for 14 seconds without any audio before the track begins. The Scissors utility allows you to cut that blank part out altogether which is great!

The Quality of sound significantly reduces from the original file, in SOME instances, why would this happen?
Convenient add-on, nonetheless, although i would like to see a fix for this, then i would consider donating.
Hi, this is more than likely caused by the volume control feature. You can disable the volume control in 2.6.2 (the option is there in 2.6.1, but it's broken). You can pull 2.6.2 down from www.glimmersoft.com (the official page for YoutubeMP3Podcaster). I will have 2.6.2 up on the official Mozilla site soon too. If you'd like to email me some of the videos you're trying I can see why it's happening. Thanks!

So far, this has worked like a dream (a good dream, even). I've used 3-4 other extensions for FF for the sake of downloading from YouTube, and strictly for the purpose of retrieving the audio. Only one other extension included built-in conversion, yet it was indecisive as to when it wanted to cooperate.
Ultimately, this the single best extension I've used with regards to downloading from YouTube, both due to the practical purpose is serves, and also because the interface is very user friendly. Kudos to you, Jeremy Gregorio!

This is without a doubt the best youtube mp3 downloader I've used with one complaint, the Volume Control that you have as a feature is messing up the quality of the mp3s.
I compared two mp3s downloaded from different add-ons and 'youtube mp3 podcaster', though it was easier to download, had significantly messed with the audio quality. What I mean by messing with audio quality is that everything (all the sounds) gets ramped up because of your Volume Control feature, thus causing everything to be around the same volume when in fact they were meant to be distinguishable.

This is the best addon for downloading both youtube videos and mp3's I've found. It's also the only one that can convert the video to an mp3 without the use of another site. Excellent job ^5

I put small point releases there instead of posting them to Mozilla.org because the review process for YoutubeMP3Podcaster is about 2 to 3 weeks (because the binaries have to be checked by hand to ensure I'm not trying to pull a fast one :) )
Hallo, wenn Sie feststellen, die Tonqualität ist nicht das gleiche wie das Original-Video, deaktivieren Sie den Lautstärkeregler in Extras -> Optionen -> YoutubeMP3Podcaster. Wenn das Kontrollkästchen deaktiviert nicht deaktivieren in 2.6.1 aufgrund eines Fehlers. Aber setzen Sie den Regler ganz nach unten sollte die gleiche Wirkung haben. Ich werde ein Service Pack auf www.glimmersoft.com setzen an diesem Wochenende mit einem besseren fix. Sorry für die schlechte Deutsch. Ich bin mit Google übersetzen.

Everything works great but this person's library "Michael" keeps showing up in my shared list. If it's not him it's somebody else's name. A couple of times there was two people's library names. I deleted iTunes then re-installed it but they still showed up. I thought they were viruses of some sort. Could you please explain. Thanks.

It was super fast to convert, but it needs higher quality. And the slider didn't make a difference in the quality. Other than that I loved it.

Works great at least at youtube. No 3rd party sites for mp3 conversation, no advertisements and very easy to use.
The slidebar down the video is very convenient!

On some videos the slider for the bitrate does not react and it reads "**0 X 0**" below it. What should that tell me? That I broke the plugin? That's also when "Duke" will always show up and cannot be set to disappear. Can still obtain the MP3 without problems, though.
The whole little GUI of this is really not conform to user-expectations:
- Slider does not react unless mouse directly over it.
- Slider does not look like it usually does in my OS.
- '?'-Icon is a link although it has no hover-effect/link-behaviour - it's also really large.
- Icon next to adress bar makes no sense (a red donkey or something) - why can this not be disabled?
- It's not clear how the selection made through that menu icon relates to the current setting of the bitrate-slider.
- When there is nothing to download, that menu icon will pop a tiny empty context menu that looks like I broke something. Icon should be greyed out instead.
- Animated GIF is horribly annoying.
- Speech bubble is hella exotic graphical element that simply looks inconsistent with everything else.
- You're wasting vertical space.
Nonetheless, this plugin does the job very well. The downloaded MP3 often is of better quality than the audio in the video on highest quality. (Are you a wizard?)

I use this add-on all the time. It's the only reason I get to listen to my favorite, obscure music. Sometime I download things that aren't music at all. Music I listen to everyday I would never be able to find if it wasn't for this add-on. Thank you so much!
