Syncing thunderbird contacts birthdays with google doesnt work. Any ideea when this feature will be available?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.13.3).Cosmin, birthday sync is in release 0.8.16 of the addon, currently available for download at zindus.com.
The feature isn't available at addons.mozilla.org yet because the addon has different release streams. addons.mozilla.org gets the most stable releases, but is the least frequently updated. See: http://zindus.com/i/release-streams

Quite good extension but is there a way to synchronize the lists as well ? I made several tests (thunderbird-zimbra) but never succeed in doing this...all my contacts are syncing but not my lists created either in thunderbird or zimbra.
It's the only (but important) annoying point but may be there's a way to solve it ?
Many thanks
TheMerse, version 0.8.15 onwards syncs Google groups with Thunderbird addressbooks. The feature is described here:
http://www.zindus.com/blog/2009/11/09/sync-google-groups-with-thunderbird-addressbooks/
For an explanation of why Google groups are synced addressbooks rather than mailing lists, see: http://zindus.com/i/mailing-lists
(relevant to Zimbra too)

I have installed zindus for about 6 weeks now to keep addresses between my mac, windows 7 and google in sync. I stuck to the installation notes and did my first sync ... worked like a charm. I also use syncing to other address books, which works great. As far as I am concerned a big THANK YOU to the developers !

Thanks for the Heads Up by Jordan on March 25, 2010. This add-on EATS and destroy all your Gmail Contacts if you are not carefull. ZIndus doesn't collect and display addresses and then wipes out your Gmail contacts. Thanks to Jordan, I did a full backup of my Gmail contacts before using Zindus. Zindus is now uninstalled!
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.13.3).ohsosad, what's wierd is that the addon has many tens of thousands of users and there is not (and never has been) a single bug report filed along the lines you describe.
It's frustrating to read reviews like yours and Jordans and have no way of getting in touch or helping you. Clearly you've experienced something but exactly what happened remains a mystery.
If you ever come back to read this review, please file a bug report:

Not bad but doesn't sync addresses and categories. Google Contacts does but seems to be missing fax numbers.

It deleted all of my contacts (except for 38 out of 186) from my Gmail contacts folder.
I guess I should have made a more recent backup but I just didn't believe that it could possibly go that wrong. Luckily I have my google contacts backup from my phone to fall back on.
One star for actually syncing the contacts to thunderbird before deleting them all.
There are no outstanding bugs that match what you describe..
The addon is a full two-way sync, so if:
a. you are in sync
b. you delete contacts on one side
then
c. the addon will delete the corresponding contacts on the other
If you feel that the addon has behaved incorrectly, please file a bug report:

Only one question ...
Why is it needed the password for the account when it should be taken from the Password Manager?
Sorry, I'm a little bit paranoid ...
By the way, the add-on is the best I have seen for this task.
Thanks,
Victor: the addon stores your password in the password manager in exactly the same way that your POP/IMAP password is stored. The question is reasonable - not paranoid:-) See:

I first tried Google Contact to sync my address book because I saw in review that it managed several address book : Things I would like to have.
But I quickly uninstalled it because only 50% of my contacts were sync, in addition, it created duplicate folders... not a really stable solution.
Zindus sync my contacts far better, but there is 2 critical missing things that remove to star to my appreciation :
- Several address book sync
- Google contact folder sync (zindus only put all your contact in you address book root).
With these 2 things, it would be a five star module.
@zmove - both the features that you suggest are in the testing release, see:

1. Don't sync merged contacts in webpage of Google mail
explanaiton
1.1. select 2 contacts in webpage and "merge" them
1.2. sync manualy - or let the plugin to sync, and the contacts in Local addrss book is unchanged
- if you don't merge contacts, you open one contact and copy necessary data from it and paste into the second one (the good one) save second one and delete first one (bad one) the sync is correct - that means it don't understand the "merged" log on gmail server
2. is not able to make any difference by groups
3. I tried several times to use it but every time I I use it it mess up my gmail contacts. (if I change something on web page the sync is made almost only manual), if I change something in thunderbird very often that changed don't apear on gmail account
1. I am not able to reproduce the problem you describe re: merging, please file a bug report: http://zindus.com/i/reporting-bugs
2. if you make a change in TB and sync, the addon updates Google's servers. If you want to see the change immediately in your browser you must force a cache refresh - either click "reload" or log out and log in again.

Ce module semble bien sympathique. Ce serait parfait s'il pouvait aussi synchroniser la carnet d'adresses de Thunderbird avec celui de Yahoo! Est-ce envisageable (je n'ai aucune connaissance technique à ce sujet) ?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.13).vivakvo, it would be possible to extend the addon to include sync with yahoo. A few people have asked for it. But there doesn't seem to be a huge demand for it.

It does not sync automatically - only the manual way by choosing sync now... or...?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.13).@niels, this is how auto-sync works:

Après m'être galéré pendant une demi-journée à installer, tester et retester Google Contacts, je suis passé à Zindus qui fait exactement ce qu'on lui demande.
Indispensable pour avoir enfin les contacts de l'ordi portable, de l'Iphone (via Microsoft Exchange) et du poste fixe synchronisés, quel que soit l'appareil où je modifie le contact. Très chouette Plugin ! Bravo et merci aux développeurs.

Fantastic !
Thanks to this, plus Lightning and Provider
I can now get rid of Outlook and sync my contacts (via Google contacts) and calendar (via Google calendar) with my 2 pc and my Android phone.

For me, zindus is better than Google Contacts for one BIG reason - it doesn't lose any changes.
How I tested it:
1. take Thunderbird offline (status bar bottom left)
2. modify contact(s)
3. go online
Result:
* zindus: changes are preserved and sync with Google
* Google Contacts: changes are silently lost!
I go on the road so for me, syncing changes made while offline is a must.
Feature-wise I read on zindus.com that addressbook google group and picture sync is coming and I'm happy to wait.

* Es wird im Thunderb. nur das "persönliche Adressbuch" synchronisiert, andere Adressbücher werden ignoriert.
* bei mehereren Googlekonten wird auch immer nur auf dieses Adressbuch abgeglichen
* Bilder werden nicht synchronisiert
Habe es wieder deinstalliert und Google Contacts verwendet
-----------------------------
* only one Thunderbird-adressbook is supported
* no picture sync
I use now "Google Contacts"

Works fine with Thunderbird 3. An easy way to have your Gmail contacts synced with Thunderbird addressbook.

Zindus Addon works fine with thunderbird 2. It would be great, if Zindus would be able to distinguish between different Google contact lists in the same Google email account. Greatings Axel from Potsdam in Germany
