Nice, but should not rely on fireclam to filter out some extension, pdf of not. The addons itself should have its own mechanism to filter by extension and/or by filetype, fireclam rely on the return code of clamscan, which cause some error message at times, and finally while scanning firefox is not responsive which is very annoying.
BUT since it's the only extension that can use amavis correctly this is a must have for concerned linux User.
BTW for those wanting to filter any kind of content in the module parameters, add this:
--exclude=".*\.((pdf)|(txt))" to exclude scan for pdf or text files, you can add whatever extension you need not scanned this way.

The developer has told how, in a reply to another review, pdfs can be excluded. What, though, of other file types, e.g. mhtml? Could you, the developer, please advise? I want to exclude such types (partly) because ClamAV (for which this is a front end) is slow.
Thanks.

Hi,
I would like to know if there is a way to exclude *.pdf files downloaded by FF from scanning by FireClam? I pretty often download *.pdf files from trusted web pages and it is a little bit annoying to wait until FireClam scans the file (mainly on older PC it takes some seconds...). Excluding .pdf files directly in ClamAV does not solve the problem.
Even though I think this add-on is great.
The newest version of Fireclam (0.8) does support this. You can enter "--scan-pdf=no" (without the quotes) in the "Additional parameters" field in the Fireclam preferences.

I couldn't get it to work with PortableApps version of FF 32 which is a bit disappointing as it otherwise works well enough on the desktop version of FF.
"Download Status Bar" works fine on PortableApps version and also accepts ClamWin arguments/parameters - although I would rather be able to use Fireclam as it seems leaner and more trimmed down to my needs.

I personally think this is an awesome add-on because I dual boot windows and linux and do not want downloaded malicious files while using linux to impact my windows drives. Right now there is still a lot of room for improvement, namely the fact that the browser essentially freezes while the scan is happening. I think that if clamav were used in the background and not be as noticeable to the user unless a virus was actually detected, this app would be near perfect.
I just want to note that I downloaded the EICAR test file and clamav detected it, however this addon does not give any option to delete it automatically. I think that would be useful option to show after a detection because users may forget to open the folder and actually delete it.
I am looking forward to further updates for this addon.

Seems that Fireclam doesn't work with Fx 29. There is no reaction by downloading test virus http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.1.1-signed).Fireclam is compatible with Firefox 29. Without further information I cannot say why it's not working in your case. Please use the support e-mail address if you have any questions.

This is a great addon, and it works with both Linux and Windows (ClamWin).
Windows ClamWin is not a real-time scanner, so it can't hurt to have it installed, it updates daily and won't interfere with your commercial anti-virus. Fireclam automatically runs a scan on each download, so it's a good addon to have.
Goes great with Linux too, as Linux ClamAV is not real-time by default.
Only problem I have with this addon is that it treats "Open from this current location" as a download, so if you want to externally view a PDF file this way, Fireclam will scan at the same time you open the file - if it's a malicious PDF, it's too late. Developers might want to look into this, so I have given it 3 stars.

It's more helpful if it can inform about the scanning is in progress.
And it's perfect if it can lock a file until finish the scanning.

I like the idea of this plugin quite a lot. However I was not sure how it would work. To see what happens when it detects a virus I made an easy test.
I created a small page with explanation where you can download a test-virus, (see: http://www.hanckmann.net/?q=node/59).
Thanks for this very useful add-on!
Thanks! Please note that the official EICAR website provides a variety of files containing the (harmless) EICAR virus signature which you can download to test your Fireclam installation:

This is a good idea to scan for Windows virus on Linux in Firefox, but interface needs a lot of work. Redesign it. Don't know if it's working or not.

Works with Clamwin well and detected the eicar test file. When used a cmd prompt will show and scan the file, but it does freeze Firefox for 5 to 10 seconds.

Nice! It would be great if it could ask if you want to remove detected virus file or not.
