Great AddOn! Very good work! Keep on maintaining it!!!
Most of the AddOns lack support for current releases. In addtion to that, this AddOn even supports derivates of TB, e.g. Postbox and even takes care of compatibility to other much-used AddOns (stationery)
I am currently evaluating it and already found a bug, which has already been reported in 2012 (25089). At first, I thought, it is not being worked on it. But the bug has just been re-introduced in TB 31 and there even is a fix already in a pre-release! Support cannot be better than that.

I'm working in a company where my colleagues consider outlook formatting The standard. So i'm forced to do the possible in order that my mail looks like as more as possible sent from outlook.
This addon help me without any extra effort. Just configure it with a template.
Moreover the support is extraordinarly efficient and kind.

Fantastic add-on, adds layers and layers of customisability to Thunderbird that Micro$oft or iApple can only dream of! Can appear daunting to configure at first but plenty of hand-holding and support are provided throughout each step. Works a treat! (And thanks for adding the %cursor% variable in version 0.9.3, finally pushed me to donate something for your excellent work!)

My company recently transitioned to Gmail and got rid of Outlook. I was looking for a way to make my replies and forwards in Thunderbird behave the way they did in Outlook. This add-on (along with ReFwdFormatter) did exactly what I needed and more.
Also, the support is amazing. When the last release had a bug, it was fixed within a day of me reporting it and I was emailed a patched copy of the add-on.

Yes why did I read so much pages about SmartTemplate on the internet before to write here;) Btw I put %cursor% in my reply header but the cursor is still at the right side of my email.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.2). This user has a previous review of this add-on.Like you pointed out the %cursor% variable is currently work in progress and an improved version will be included in the next release. however if you want to help (we cannot reproduce the problem on our machines) feel free to contact us via the support site.

Hi,
When I tab from subject to the message field, it focus at the end of the signature, not in the first line.
Will it be possible to adjust it? Thanks for the great addon.
Among other things, I am currently working on a %cursor% variable which will make it possible to determine the exact location of where the cursor should go.

I had an issue with replies not working when using plain text. Axel worked with me, issuing several pre-release bug fixes, until the issue was finally stomped out. I highly recommend using this add-on to replace the awful default reply mechanism in Thunderbird.

Very useful addon. I have been using it for a couple of years. It helps me to add greeting with first name (e.g. Hi %from(firstname)%) when replying to mails which avoids name misspell. I am also using it to configure the body with a font of my interest.
Thanks for the good support.
It would be useful to have a support to fetch nickname from the local address book such as %from(nickname)% but I hope it is not that easy to provide.
thanks for your review.
It's not easy to fetch the Datas from local address book his content is stored in binary files and such files you can't read with javascript and SmartTemplate4 is javascript only.
Maybe we will find an solution in the future but without any guarantee

This is simply the best extension if you want to continue to use Linux at the office. Most businesses seem to have custom email stationery set up in Outlook and Thunderbird just isn't well equipped for it when run through Linux. SmartTemplate4 means that I can 'use' Calibri and other fonts when sending emails out so that I am inline with the company email style guide.
I have one little bugbear since upgrading to TB 13: It seems to append an extra newline to the beginning of emails above my template. I use the templates as the body of my emails as I need to be inside the template to use the custom styles that my company requires. Is there an obvious configuration option that I can tick somewhere?
EDIT: Marky - amazing! Thanks so much, that has just made my day!

Excellent add-on. I love it !
Just a little bug to work on. Here it is :
- An optional script (with square brackets) isn't understood when written with indented lines.
- Example:
This works :
[[<tr><td>Copy</td><td align="center">:</td><td>%cc%</td></tr>]]
But this doesn't work :
[[
<tr>
<td>
Copy
</td>
<td align="center">
:
</td>
<td>
%cc%
</td>
</tr>
]]
I think that you exit the procedure in a premature way by encounting an "end of line" (EOL) although ONLY the detection of a "]]" should induce the exit of the optional phrase regardless the number of coded lines.
A little bug which is certainly very easy to correct.
thank you for your review.
We are happy that you enjoy our work and our addon!
What you mentioned isn't an BUG, the expression inner [[...]] works only if all content is in the same line (result by design)!
You can make an Feature Request on our support page and maybe we will change this behaviour in the future

BTW: i'm really long the developer of ST4 and i don't have see such formatting before
... you never stop learning in life :)

Thanks for making Thunderbird as flexible as KMail ;)
What doesn't work for me:
1. Choosing "Start my reply below the quote" in account settings places
the SmartTemplate4 text at the end of the message.
2. Choosing "Start my reply above the quote" leaves 2 lines of space
between the SmartTemplate4 text and the quoted message.
I'd gladly give a 5 star review if those things would work (either I'm
doing something wrong or it's due to bugs).
Much thanks.
Thanks for the four stars; indeed we have a new development team and we are fixing (and tracking) a lot of bugs on bugzilla:
http://smarttemplate4.mozdev.org/bugs.html
1. this is [Bug 25099], you can find a fixed version here (0.9.2 prerelease 42):
https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=25099
2. This is [Bug 25103], with the prerelease from above you can set it but we haven't written a global settings page yet.
https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=25103
There is a new setting in about:config
extensions.smartTemplate4.insertBRatTop
which is currently boolean (true / false). We might change this to be a numeral instead so you can choose to insert 0,1,2 or more <BR> at the top. Default is false and this completely removes all line breaks on the top.

excellent addon, easy to use even I know only a little about html, exatly what I need. There are some little problems with the new version, maybe it's just me. After automatically updated to the latest version, my old templates are gone and I had to write them again.......and for the forward quote, the original quote can't be completely hidden, you can still see "original message" behind your own made quote. If you can remove that too, it'll be great. But I'm happy with this addon, so 5 stars.
edit: Thanks for the answer, did what you asked for, please check bug ID 25089, error console descriptions are within.
First of all thanks for the great review - however when updating, Thunderbird should have prompted you with a conversion window:
http://smarttemplate4.mozdev.org/screenshots/conversion.png
this would have made sure to migrate all your old settings. As regards the other problem, could you please raise a bug with a little more details here:
http://smarttemplate4.mozdev.org/bugs.html
I would be very interested whether you get any warnings or error messages in tools > error console when opening the message composer window.

Excellent add-on, exactly what I was looking for, inserting the e-mail ID in the reply header.
It was affected by the passage to Thunderbird 13, an e-mail to the author (with all required technical information) was answered within less than 12 hours, with a beta release that solved the problem. This is worthy of praise, appreciation and KUDOS,
Thanks for your kind words!
I have just joined the project last weekend and I have put in a considerable amount of time to fix the problems that Tb13 compatibility has brought. We are currently in the process of finalizing and testing the changes and are hoping to submit a new version for review by the weekend.
Thanks for your patience,

Good addon. Unfortunately suppressing of standard quote header by checking "[X] Use instead of standard quote header" stopped to work after update from Thunderbird 12.0.1 to 13.0. Currently there are both headers in the reply.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.0).EDIT at June 8, 2012
Hello Petr,

Since today I realized that it is not possible to answer at emails with attachment. The reply-header appears for a second, than the message-window and the "to:"-line are empty.
Thank you for fixing this Problem nearly.
Good work!
FriedHerz,
Unfortunately the review system doesn't allow me to help since I can only reply once. I have had other users report a similar issue and we corrected it by changing some system settings. Please send me an email so I can assist you. (There is a support link listed on the add-on page.)

I have a zh-TW locale language :)
Good custom HTML template.
thank you for your review and your 5 stars!
Please contact me if you like to translate ST4 from en-US into your language (zh-TW) .. only if you like ;-).
I will send you the new locale en-US for translation, this we need for the next version of ST4 (new structure).
My Mail is smarttemplate4{at}gmx{dot}de or register an account on babelzilla for free and start the translation for your language.
Thank you!
