There was no way to update to the newer gmailui-1.0-tb.xpi with the AddOn Updater (always gave a download-error) !
The good news is : after downloading the gmailui-1.0-tb.xpi manually / locally and installing (actually updating) from the saved file, it works in TB45

Its a great tool, the only thing I find sad is that global search over all folders or Sub folders ins not possible.
I understand that there might be a reason for this behavour.
As a workaround I want to ask the developer to consider this feature:
* Add a setting 'remember search term' on/off
* When on, don't clear the search term field when the users cycles through the folders
Is this possible? Any other ideas for workarounds?
Thanks & Regards

Superb time saver! This extension makes me not miss GMail anymore. And the help tooltip is actually really helpful.

Once you install this extension, you realize how much you missed it before. All the times you half-consciously thought "if only I could use multiple criteria or a regular expression here, I'd find that mail immediately"...
It is a pity that a Global search reverts to the 'old' way of searching, without regex and with very simple boolean logic. But you can't have everything.
EDIT - the developer fixed the issue mentioned below within a few days after I reported it. Well done, excellent support!
[There is one little glitch: if you put the Expression Search widget in the ToolBar, it is impossible to hide the Quick Filter Bar. Thunderbird simply doesn't allow it (in the menu: View... Toolbars... Quick Filter Bar). The empty bar keeps taking up space above the list of mails. (TB 31.5.0 on OS X 10.10.2)]
Please report this issue @ https://github.com/wangvisual/expression-search/issues with a screen-shot for the 'empty bar'.
I can't reproduce, yes the menu in TB won't work but I don't have the 'empty bar'.

I've used it for years, and it never failed.

Most useful add-on. And not only for the very convenient search operators it provides, but also because it can be placed in the menu bar and it allows one to hide TB normal filter, thus saving a great amount of precious vertical space.
I'd have one request: whether the appearance of the quick-filter buttons could be optional, so that people, like I, who don't use them could save some horizontal space in the menu bar.
Thank you for this awesome addon!
Please try 0.9beta @ https://github.com/wangvisual/expression-search/blob/master/beta/gmailui-0.9-tb.xpi

It's easier now to make the transition from Emacs/Notmuch to Thunderbird

This is an excellent add-on that makes my life a lot easier when searching through messages. I have run in one funny where body:test would return no results but bodyre:test will. Could someone throw some light in why this might be the case?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.8).For version 0.8.8, the addon will try both text/html and plain text match against pattern for bodyre, but for searching in body, it's built-in of TB, I think it's only match plain text part.
So the real question is which one of your test is correct, did the mail message contain 'test'?

This add-on is tremendously helpful! I've been using it for a long time now and still appreciate it day after day. — That said, it's functionality should be matter of course in a good mailer. Many thanks for your work!

I am using Thunderbird Conversation and Ctrl+Enter conflicts. Is it possible to assign a virtual folder creation to the different key? Other than that, it is great.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.6).I tried Thunderbird Conversation and seems no conflicts, what conflicts did you see? Besides, Thunderbird Conversation has option page that can assign hot keys.
Thanks.

Thank you for your great upgrade.
Much much better now. It is better as the default thunderbird search. Like also the regex search (never seen it before, maybe it was there before). How do I drag the expression search bar to my own toolbar (I created). I wish also to hide the icons, unread, starred, contact, tags, attachment. Thanks again for your great work!
In the addon's settings dialog, you can choose to move the search bar to menu bar or toolbar, but can't move to user defined toolbar.
Also in current design, there's no option to hide the icons, it's moved along with search bar. But you can do it by userChrome.css (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Thunderbird/Thunderbird_Configuration_Files), eg, add the following lines:
#quick-filter-bar-collapsible-buttons {
display: none !important;
}
If you also like to hide the sticky button, use:
#qfb-sticky , #quick-filter-bar-collapsible-buttons {
display: none !important;
}

Best addition ever. With Expression Search you can drop the buildt-in gloda and quickfilter because this add-on it combines both in one location. Additionally it extends the search features so you'll find exactly what you search.
No idea why this is also called GMailUI but whatever.
For those who also have to work with Outlook and miss the old Lookout Search: this is the similar approach on TB, only better.

This is just awesome! Unless you know what this is you may not appreciate it :) I've few suggestions as I feel this can replace the TB's built in Open Conversation feature (which seems buggy/not satisfying my needs) and by supporting multiple "ExpressionSearch" folders with different key strokes, it can scale to various needs.
I've already modified it to apply text replacement only with SHIFT+Right Click and not with CTRL+Right Click! It has benefits IMO! Also, after CTRL+ENTER, it jumps to ExpressionSearch folder, there has to an easy way to go back to the previous folder. For now I've modified es.js to save the folder location and then use another key stroke to jump there back.
And if search or CTRL+ENTER can open ExpressionSearch folder in the new Tab, it will be just awesome!
I'll reach out to you Wang to get some ideas on how to improve this and see if I can be of any help.
I'm surely going to contribute $$ too!
This add-on must be on the TOP list.
Thanks. You can send me your modified file or ideas, to opera.wang+es AT gmail.com .
We can also talk through emails.

This add-on is simply what it is called to be: a powerful search tool. Very helpful if you easily want to find messages.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.3).Rated 4 out of 5 stars
"Expression Search" works well, but I wish it integrated with Thunderbird Conversations to really emulate GMail.
But what about "GMailUI"? I used to use this extension to switch to GMail's keyboard shortcuts, yet this functionality seems to have been removed since then? Please restore this functionality, I keep inadvertently marking all my messages as junk!
Compared with original GMailUI 0.6, these features are still missing:
Use 'Y' to archive selected mail to archive folder (use 'a')
Use J/K to move messages up and down, and Ctrl+J to mark a message as junk (conflict with builtin key mapping, use 'f/b' instead)
Key '/' focuses on the quick search bar (use Ctrl+F)
Please try http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig_extension for change key config.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I really like this add-on. I use it everyday! Why is it so hard to find, btw, from the main add-on search page?
In reference to the prior review from Massimo advising that "Expression Search" doesn't work with Thunderbird 7.0, it does work. It's a bit confusing because after you upgrade to TB7.0 (at least on my MacBook running 10.7.1), it will complain that "Expression Search / Google Mail UI is incompatible with Thunderbird 7.0" with a little warning triangle. And, indeed, it won't work. But, do not fear. Just uninstall and reinstall Expression Search and it works fine in 7.0.I love the add-on, Wang Opera.
My only enhancement request is that I wish I could do negative combined searches: s:proxy !f:jeff (my example...show me all messages with proxy in the subject line, but not messages from jeff).
I just change version 0.8.3 to be compatible with TB 7.0 yesterday, that's maybe why it's said incompatible at the first time.
For negative search, please try '-', eg: s:proxy f:-jeff, you can check the help page at Tools->Addons->Expression Search->Options->Help
Next release I'll see if I can made the help page more easy to find.

Hi,
this version 0.8.3 not function with TB 7.
Help me?
Massimo
Tested with TB7 and TB8a, both works. When you say 'not function', can you give the details?
Thanks.

wonderful add-on, like having cataracts removed - so much easier to find messages!
would love to suggest here it would benefit from one extra search feature, and that's to look within a range based on age eg days:30 / d:30 or even months:3 / m:3 years:2 / y:2
thank you! d
Try before:2011/03/09 07:12:00 or be:09 Mar 2011 05:00:00 or after:Mar 10, 2011 or af:(2011/03/01 -2011/03/09)
And I may consider your suggestions for future release.
Thanks.
