The latest version (2.3.0a3) under Firefox 3.0.5 has at least two bugs that aren't present in 2.2.0.
1. I can't access the menu without it appearing on the screen.
IMO, this is the best feature of this extension -- I have the menubar hidden, and I don't even need an icon for the menu to be able to access it (Alt+F brings up the file menu, for example, and if I forget what other menus are there, I can Alt+F and use the arrow keys.)
2. As someone else mentioned, even if it's blank (through customization), the menubar shows up on all newly-opened windows, which defeats the whole point of this extension (to save screen space).

Not as good as advertised. Menu bar is hidden but no icon, have to right click to restore the Menu Bar. I was hoping for an icon to click and display the menus.

Love this little space saver! i put it in the menubar and added a whole slew of other icons up there that would never fit with the traditional menu bar.
the only problem i seem to have is that a couple of my extensions (split browser & wired marker) add themselves to the menu bar, and even if i un-check their boxes, they still show up... but not a big problem... they don't bother me there.
Great job!!!
....update.... i found what the problem was, i needed to disable these two in the traditional menubar settings and uncheck them in the compact menu settings and voila! they are no longer in the menu list :)

Excellent!
I have a small comment, though. I updated to the new version, and since then, every time I start or restart Firefox, an empty menubar keeps showing up and I have to close it manually.
It wasnt happening before the update.
Which version of Firefox or Thunderbird using?
Please tell me prefs data "compact.menu.hidetoolbar.*" (enter "about:config" in location-bar.)

To replace the little blue icon with the more appropriate, full-sized menu icon (used on this page and in Addons), replace the 'compact.jar' file at 'C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\PROFILE-NAME\extensions\{57068FBE-1506-42ee-AB02-BD183E7999E4}\chrome' with this one - http://www.mediafire.com/?d13y9tvvgcv

This extension doesnt work very well in Thunderbird. Only the menu in the main window is compacted other menus (Address Book, Compose) dont get a compacted menu.

Just what I was looking for. As a keyboard aficionado, I love the way that Compact Menu hides the menus, but leaves them accessible using the Alt key (eg, Alt + f brings up the File menu). This frees up space in the menu bar while leaving it just as accessible as before. Thank you!

This is amazing! Other hide menu add-ons either don't work or aren't very good. This makes it easy to hide and unhide the menu bar. Thanks!

As of this date, does not fail gracefully, crashing FF 3.0.4 completely in OS X (10.4.11) when accessing the toolbar icon (or text) behind which, or under which, the menus have been moved. Crash is not always immediate, though i.e. you might get a menu selection or two before the deal is done and FF bails out. I like the idea of this add-on, and hope that it will be re-worked and improved. I'll be giving it a very wide berth until it's seen an update and that's been in circulation for a while - as I do with anything that crashes the context in which it's running.

Simple, works, doesn't break anything and has a very pretty blue toolbar icon! On my permanent must have list. Thanks!

普段ショートカットでメニューを利用しているので、完全に非表示ではなく、しかもコンパクトに整理できるこのアドオンは素晴らしいと思います。

This is a great add-on! The long list of visible options in the menu bar was starting to irritate me, but this turns them all into one neat little icon. Great space-saver!

I had hidden the bookmark bar and moved its items onto the nav bar under one folder, used small icons, etc to save space. Then I found this to top it all off. Now I have two rows, my nav bar which includes bookmarks and access to the menu bar, and the tab bar.
Amazing, thank you. I've been looking for something like this.
