The developer of this widget, Mr Todd Long, is either not capable of solving his created quirks with this version 0.6/0.6.1 of the GMail Manager, or is simply disinterested in solving these issues.
Which is why I sincerely applaud Ms Irene Phan's attempts to get users to use version 0.5.7.5b, which worked absolutely fine till this latest version 0.6 was announced. I also agree that if the earlier version 0.5.7.5 was worth 5-stars, this version 0.6 or 0.6.1 would just barely score 2-stars.
One ESSENTIAL quirk which needed fixing over the last year or so is the ability of version 0.6 to accept ALL characters in the password field. For reasons best known only to the developer, he has disabled some non-alphanumeric characters from being entered in this version 0.6 — even though Gmail/Google Accounts allow them — including, as many people have commented, the 'space' character.
I'm a confirmed version 0.5.7.5 user, and need to re-install it every time the auto-update feature of Firefox accidentally updates this extension. Unfortunately, this version 0.5.7.5 has suddenly stopped "reporting" new messages since last week ... either due to a Firefox update or because of any updates of other installed extensions.
It's a pity why all characters are not accepted in the password entry field, and why all characters are not displayed in the logged on state in this new version.
My rating of 5-stars is for the OLD 0.5.7.5 version only.

Pity that this addon is showing zero unread when I have 1 unread -- even after I refresh multiple times. It seems to be connected to the fact that I use Priority Inbox. If I switch my open gmail session back to the regular inbox, I get the proper count. Please fix this.

This seems like a good alternative to gmail notifier. I have just installed it, so it is too soon to make a statement. However I have a question: Is it possible to choose how often it checks for new mail? I could not find a setting for that. I think it takes to long between every time it checks for new e-mail. I would love for it to check every minute like the notifier did.
Althoug, so far I would say that it without doubt is far better than the gmail watcher.

Guys, I started to use "Gmail Manager" today! It works perfectly and pretty faster than "Gmail Notifier" which I used earlier, I really reccomend to all!

A great extension. The only thing missing for me is an option to make it use the Gmail SSL server, other than that it helps make Gmail my primary email account.

Works great, doesn't have issues like the notifier and has all the features I want. 5/5

Used to like it but have been having probems with firefox taking an age (5+ minutes) load, especially when IE is not running first. Disabled this add on and firefox is quick again. Have 5 gmail accounts and do not want to wait 5+ mins to run firefox, addon gets disabled I'm afraid.

I would have given this 5 stars because the snippets mean everything to me, and it was such an important function in my day-to-day work. The snippets stopped, making this add-on just about useless to me. I read b0b b0b's review and took his advice, making Gmail HTML only. What a wonderful surprise to see my snippets working again. Thank you so much, b0b b0b, I am forever grateful to you!

I've been using this addon for MANY months. Works great, awesome for managing multiple gmail accounts, however, it no longer works as efficiently with the updated gmail option called "Priority Inbox" which filters your "important" mail as always on top and the rest of your unread mail below this. With Priority Inbox enabled in the gmail settings, Gmail Manager will ONLY give the unread mail count for your priority mail and not all your regular mail. In other words, it'll say zero unread in Gmail Manager even though you have regular unread mail in your inbox.

Saludos.

I used to like using this addon, before the developer revamped the whole UI of the program. Initially it was more lightweight and quicker than this version. I also realized that without gmail manager firefox loads up a lot quicker for me. I now use "Webmail notifier" which in my opinion is a far better choice, it doesn't take up a lot of resources, and plus not only does it support gmail it also supports other email programs such as hotmail, yahoo (though I don't check those). It offers basic functionality but that's all I need. Plus, one thing I like about it is that you can easily rearrange the order of the email accounts, on gmail manager I have to initially configure them in the right order which I didn't really like.
Initially all I wanted the addon to do is to have my gmail accounts on the top right, so I can select it one by one, but now it's far too complicated.

To get back the snippets and the all the features, you have to set Gmail to HTML only, set Gmail to HTML default. It's at the very bottom where the information about the last time you logged is found. This worked for me and now I got all the features back, and I did think, for a long time, that it was the new update that caused the trouble.

@b0b b0b: I understand your point of view & it's truly sad to see our favorite program breaks and then no one out there in dev room to hear your voice. But then the community needs to understand one thing: Developers are also the humans like you and me. They have family to feed and so Freeware/Open Source code is not going to help them to make something good for living.
I don't know if lack of funds is the reason for abandon, reason might be something else too. But the question still stands aloud: How many of the Users of this add-on donated funds to Developer? This is the area where Open Source Code/GNU GPL becomes unreliable. "b0b b0b", please don't take it personally; it's a thought for the entire community.
Are we thinking that this world is too generous? Are we counting on the users to come back and donate? Do we want to see talented programmers beg for the donations?! Is this GNU/GPL all about? ... Users, you keep on ripping the good work for free and Developers, keep on working for nothing?! Common guys ... support the Program you like, donate handful of funds to the Programmers and I'm sure they will continue development on your favorite project. Remember ... things in Wall Mart costs the same to them; there is no special economy zone @ Times Square for Open Source Community Contributors; nothing offered for Free to the GNU/GPL Programmers as yet; they need to spend money to buy things for living, so they deserve full right to decide on whether to continue the work on Open Source Code project (which anyway comes without any liability!!) regardless of how many (free) Users all over the world using their app.
Please don't take me otherwise ... it's just a thought that I wanted to submit here. You may or not agree to it, I understand. But the fact that "Programmers need money to continue their development work" should remain undoubted ... Alas!

Great extension, I've been using it for three years already but... since one update it no longer shows the mail snippets, no matter what settings I've done.
Does anyone else noticed this bug ?

This add-on is great and after just one day I sent $5 !!
In a similar way to Roboform it's the kind of program that you immediately wondered how you ever did without it.

Works Great.
but the notifier system doesn't work with Mac OSX 10.6.4 & Firefox 3.6.6
anyway, I think it's necessary having a option to hide "xxx@gmail.com" in the status bar.
