I register just to say thanks for this very useful plugin. I have not tried all the capabilities that this plugin offers, but for what I need it does the job nicely.

Excellent!
it would be great if in CSV mode:
allow you to specify a folder (not the file)
inside read all CSV files every minute
did dispatch from CSV file
delete the csv
reading csv file again, again, again

Would have given it 5-stars because it is extremely helpful, but it has one small "bug". In the variables, no conditional formatting (e.g. a different color, making text/numbers bold) is supported. This will lead the matching of the CSV and the email {{fields}} to break. Would be a useful addition to the code if possible :-)

I typed an email and sent it using the Mail Merge extension. I saved it in plain text to the Outbox. The template saved fine, but the Outbox contained the email without any space characters. I sent the email, and I noticed that the space characters were also missing from the sent message. Does anyone know how to keep the space characters?

You have to be aware of CSV file type and case sensitivity while using this software. If I had a daughter, I would marry her to this software. A++

Great addon, makes TB much more usable.

I have found a small issue: the equal to clause doesn't work (at least for me), whereas the contains clause does work.

This made so simple what I was trying to do with a complex awk-and-shell script! Just organize the data into a CSV, insert headers, and create your email. The only thing I wish I could figure out is how to embed line breaks in CSV or have TB or MM convert something else to line breaks. But I just split the values into separate fields and added them one by one and it did the job. Now I can quickly gen some data and then fire off emails to appointments. Thanks for this great well done add-on.

AMAZING PLUGIN! AMAZING SUPPORT!

It's free, but certainly worth donating if you use it.

I've seen $100 mail merge software programs that don't work this well.

Two things to keep in mind to insert images:

#1. You need to use "Insert > HTML" in the top menu, NOT the insert image from the formatting bar.

#2. You need to REMOVE the "http://" from the front of your URL, in your CSV file.

Example:

1. "Insert > HTML"

<img src="{{myimageurl}}" alt="" border="0">

2. In your CSV file, you need a column "myimageurl".

3. The contents of that column look link this:

www.mydomain.com/imgs/image001.jpg

Installed on Lion - hoping it will be final thing that convinces me to drop MS Entourage.

One problem: inserting fields to personalise an email for example {{FirstName}} only works if the addressee is in the TB Personal Address Book.

I am using the ability of Thunderbird to access the Mac OS X Address Book where all my contacts are stored.

Although I can use MailMerge to send emails to people in my Mac OS X Address Book, Mail Merge will not fill in the contents of variables for names in the Apple address book.

Have I made a mistake or is this a restriction?
Is there a bypass?

Thanks

@luisroca I installed the latest version, currently Mail Merge 3.2.0, and it seems to work fine on Thunderbird 12.
#win Thunderbird MailMerge is much more versatile than Outlook's.

I've used a few mailers in my time, but this one really delivers! It's ingeniously designed to make it simple for anyone to use. My thanks to you...

This add-on works one hundred percent for me - it's safe, solid and convenient. Have not had any problems with special characters (using utf-8 on linux).

Im my opinion this plugin should not change - don't add more features, it's just about perfect as-is!

Very good add-on but I had a couple of issues I needed to work out:
1. The .csv file can't have certain characters in it (apostrophes and slashes caused error messages);
2. The .csv file failed when created from an Excel (2003) spreadsheet (file/save as). I opened the .xls file in Open Office and saved it as a .csv file and it worked fine.
What amazes me is that the add-on even allows individualised/personalised attachments to be included.
I work for a charity and this has turned a 4-5 hour job into a 30 minute one.
Thank you!

Some products do just one thing, but they do it perfectly.

I am glad to say that the latest version (3.2.0) is one of those products, with the developer having solved the original restrictions.

Mail Merge is simple yet flexible, and performs exactly as expected.

Thank you for this incredibly useful add-on.
