great & fast addon which provides the final search feature I was looking from after switching off outlook.

I realised that sinec installing it - I cannot use the "open in conversation" feature properly. Most of the times it directs me to different messages. Once I disabled the addon, the feature now works. Please try to fix as your addon is VERY useful.

I got this extension to do regex searches. Which it does... except for stuff like fr:!workdomain.com

I've tried multiple gyrations, and I can NOT get it to display everything that *didn't* come from *.workdomain.com (eg all outside emails). This is annoying.

It apparently uses the javascript regex engine, which doesn't have any documented "not" searches, except for x(!?y), which doesn't work for this (I tried it).

So the regex implementation is inadequate.

Yes, Tokens like ['simple', 'regex', 'headerre', 'bodyre', 'fromre', 'tore'] should be the last one and has no "NOT" searches.

But if you only need to filter out email from internal, a normal "from" filter is enough:
f:-workdomain.com

If you really want to use regex, you can try:
fr:/@(?!workdomain\.com)/i

Thanks.

As others have stated, this extension should be an integral part of Thunderbird. In my case, the Thunderbird built-in searches were slow and less than successful, and lacked the capability of more complicated searches.

I have been using it for a number of months and have not run into any issues.

For those people who indicated that "it doesn't work" or something similar, remember to toggle on View->Toolbars->Quick Filter Bar, otherwise you will not see the correct filter field in which to enter Expression Search (ES) functions and parameters.

Also, for those people who decry the lack of a global search or ability to search subfolders, all you need to do is create a Saved Search folder and run ES on that folder. You can modify the folder on-the-fly by right-clicking it and choosing "Properties."

I don't understand why so many people prefer web mail interfaces these days. I feel that a local client like Thunderbird is far more comfortable and flexible to handle, with one exception: The search function in GMail is more convenient to use than the one in Thunderbird. Expression Search / GMailUI brings the same functionality to Thunderbird. For me it works just fine, I couldn't observe any of the bugs that same others have reported in their reviews. However, I did observe one other bug: With this extension installed, the menu bar no longer works. It's still there, but no longer clickable. As all menu bar options are also available from the "hamburger" menu, this is not a disaster. It's still an acceptable trade-off for the added value provided by this extension.

This add-on worked well for a couple of days. Then it stopped working. It has added a second search box which does nothing at all (this is present regardless of the setting of "Hide Normal Filter"). I've tried removing it and reinstalling it, that doesn't fix it. Thunderbird 52.2.1 on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6.

Fixed in 1.2 and waiting for review.

this is what always bugged me about thunderbird. the kind of random uncontrollable search engine. this helps tremendously. should be just a build-in feature.

It fails to do the most basic thing stated on the available document.

This is so obviously needed that I think it should be integrated inside Thunderbird.

Expression search is so useful to find certain e-mails in a huge haystack. Thanks a lot for maintaining this great AddOn.
