Sadly this is giving me american english spellings often trying to substitute Z's in place of S's for instance the British spelling of recognise is with the S, yet it tries to correct it to the USA spelling recognize

Hi, Sadly the (UK) English dictionary v1.19 doesn't work for TB3 and to remove the add-on use Windows system restore but the (US) English dictionary v4.0 works fine for me and suggest you use that add-on until an updated version is available for TB3.

I cannot install any dictionaries into my version 3.5.7 running under Windows 7.
Why? I miss this facility greatly. :-(

Installed fine into the Thunderbird Release candidate 3.0 for me without issues.
However, when checking spelling it is going through the entire HTML code behind the message rather than just checking the message content itself. Needs updating!

Disappointing. Even with the hack described by other reviewers it won't install on TB3.0 for me, nor will it uninstall, so I'm stuck.

This would be a very useful add-on for Mozilla and yet it has proven to be one of the most unreliable add-ons I've installed. Mostly, it seems to fluctuate between being compatible with my version of Thunderbird and begin incompatible. While sometimes this is due to an actual update of Thunderbird occuring (and a new version of the add-on being very slow to come out), on many other occasions I can't even claim that. A pity really.

Very good indeed. I strongly recommend also whether you post the comment of Johny on all sites (not only from ES-Spain) or even better you have the file install.rdf directly modified. Thanks to both.

The solution to mod the install.rdf file seemed to work for me. Could somebody mod the master so that we don't have to all do this?

UPGRADE SOLUTION
Step-by-step procedure:
Download the xpi file and extract it (with winzip/7zip/powerarchiver/winrar etc).
Go in the extracted folder and edit (with plain-text editor - such as notepad) the file install.rdf
For Firefox compatibility, go to line 12 (em:maxVersion) and change the value to
3.0.*
For Thunderbird compatibility, go to line 19 (em:maxVersion) and change the value to
3.0.*
I suggest you change both.
Save the file and compress the folder in a zip file (i.e. british_english_dictionary.zip). Rename the zip file to an xpi file (i.e. british_english_dictionary.xpi).
Install the new XPI addon into Firefox and/or Thunderbird!

This was a good spell-checker. For some reason, it isn't compatible with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23, which is the version in Ubuntu (Linux) Karmic, but so long as you have myspell-en-gb installed that doesn't seem to be a problem.
The myspell vocabulary doesn't seem to be that large - words like "interpellate", "rowlocks" and "ericaceous" are marked.

There _is_ a problem with this dictionary and Thuderbird 2.0, on Linux at least.
1) Installing it does not enable the "Restart Thunderbird" button, which means I have to do close the dialog, then close TBird.
2) After restart, the dictionary shows a red exclamation mark in the add-ons list, saying the Dictionary is not compatible with this version of TBird.
Given that my other dictionaries and my other add-ons work perfectly, this means there is a problem with this one.

Does not work with anything higher than 3.5.
It's a great dictionary, a great shame that it has not been updated.

Yes it does work with 3.5, that's what I'm using.. are you sure you are using it correctly? Right click the input box and make sure that there's a tick in the check spelling! I've been using this spell checker for a long time and I can tell you it's the best one!
