This would be great, if it worked. I tried to install it today, and instead a Mozilla Plug in Search was installed, but hooks to a Bing search were added to the registry. When I try to install it now, I get the error- "Firefox could not install the search plugin from "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/54407/bing-20090601.xml?src=search" because an engine with the same name already exists." And yet Bing does not appear on any plugins or the search drop down. I tried doing "Firefox -safe-mode" and remove everything but my bookmarks, and it still fails. What's even worse, is the Bing search WAS installed on my copy of Firefox, and somehow now won't appear as a choice. Since it doesn't work,ONE star.

I accepted the agreement and installed fine. No need to restart or anything like other reviewers state. Thanks for the wonderful addon!

Thanks, Bing, for coming pre-installed with almost every single download, and taking FOREVER just to wipe out your existence on my hard drive.

Now I have about 3 hours worth of coding to re-do, considering I was not given an option to save my work.
This toolbar is horrible; serves no purpose.

This will not install for SeaMonkey/2.0.10. Support is nonexistent. The email address is no longer valid and a question posted at the forum site as of today [2010-11-4] is 322 days old and has yet to be answered.

This failed to install for me on multiple machines, instead displaying the XML page as others mentioned.
I only got Bing to work by going here instead:

While this is called InstallManager_Bing_Microsoft.Exe It is the newest file which installs the Add-on for firefox (and IE "if" you use it[I don't])

The searches are way better then Google, and more intuitive to your needs, without all the "Preferred" sites which Google gets paid for, not to mention every time you turn around, they are violating your privacy, and mine. (I'm glad I sold my stock 4 years ago, while the getting was good), and Google became to big, for good business practices. Bing's bar is down to earth, practical, and also helps keep your hotmail(live,msn hotmail etc) account active online, so you'll know when you receive new email,

I too vastly prefer bing to google these days. Not only does it return more intuitively relevant sites uncluttered with all those phony spam keyword sites & google 'preferred' results, its image search is far more user friendly. Add in google,inc.'s notoriously arrogant contempt for users' privacy, & bing is definitely the go-to engine these days. However, FF inexplicably requires that its users manually download bing as an add-on & I am having the same problem as others here have previously noted. I also receive the "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it" message with document tree. I did as a previous reviewer suggested & scrolled all the way to the bottom of the user agreement,alas to no avail. So I guess I am forced to either bookmark it or google for bing and neither option is as good as having bing as my default search as I would prefer. Can't wait til FF joins the 21st century and abandons its googlephilia; if our overworked & underappreciated mozilla developers would take a break, look up & take a gander at the real world now & then, they might notice that many of its users already did that a long time ago. It's ridiculous that users have to download the darn thing & even more ridiculous that the download is so troublesome & even inoperative for so many.

Crazy people, I had the same problem when trying to install but when I scrolled all the way down the End-User License Agreement I was then able to use bing!

I had a friend that had a problem with BING taking over her email. By that I mean when she checked her email, the message box showed for less than a second and then 'search with Bing' replaced the message. She could not read her email. This happened on every email she received. It drove me crazy until I removed the Bing plug-in and her email went back to normal. I did a search for 'Bing took over my email' and others had the same problem.

Google's CEO Eric Schmidt said in a CNBC interview, "If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place." Bing has a better privacy policy, and hopefully they will keep it up.

thanks it works for me and looks great.
but I realized that the variety of buttons are small here for instance there is no way to add Facebook button into the toolbar. my question is, does anyone know that if there is any plan to overcome this shortage? thank you in advance.

Hello all. I need a bit of help. I'm trying to install the official Bing search add-on v20090601 in to Google toolbar for FF. The toolbar is v7.1.20100408Wb1 with FF v3.6.3. The error message that I get when trying to install the add-on is as follows:
Firefox could not install the search plug-in from "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/latest/10434/addon-10434-latest.xml?src=addondetail" because an engine with the same name already exists.
I don't have and didn't have the Bing engine installed. I did before, but it was in earlier versions of FF. When I updated to FF V3.6.3, it, the Bing search add-on, seemed to have disappeared which is why I'm trying to reinstall it. I uninstalled the Google toolbar for FF and updated to its latest version. Prior to that, I attempted to add the add-on to the previous toolbar v6.* without any success. I'd even tried adding the add-on using the "Make Bing your decision engine" link via the actual Bing homepage, but got the same error message.
Through a bit of diligent troubleshooting, I kinda' realized, but yet fully solved the issue. I ran FF as an admin- both normally and in safe mode-and found that it was installed there. So I uninstalled from both then reinstalled it in FF as a standard user. I no longer got the error message, but it still didn't appear while FF is running normally. I then ran FF in safe-mode, with normal privileges, and the add-on did appear in the toolbar. (I, of course, uninstalled it because I don't wanna' have to run FF with elevated privileges nor in safe.) So the question now is how do I get the add-on to appear without running FF with admin privileges?

Microsoft has finally done something right. MSN Live Search was the worse search engine, and Yahoo was just a runner up to Google; but now we finally got a search engine that has take a lot of steps in the right direction of innovation and has blown away Google's search engine. Don't believe me do an image search side by side (Google and Bing) Bing no clicking next all the images load on the page. Not only that but you can search for the same image in various sizes. On regular searches if the description is cut off no problem hover to the right and its there without clicking on the link. Hover over videos and they play without having to click on them when they come back in search results. Thank you BING.
