FINALLY - Big thanks to Charlie58 for the link to "Optimize Google" - People listen ...Optimize Google is the Up-To-Date Customize Google Extension ... check it out: http://www.optimizegoogle.com/2009/08/12/download-version-0-76-3/

It seems development has stopped on his extension. Use OptimizeGoogle instead at http://sourceforge.net/projects/optimizegoogle/. It works fine on Firefox 3.5.2.

well it really do not work with FF 3.5.2;
even if I change em:maxVersion (3.1pre) in install.rdf file to 3.5.*

It says it is not compatible with FF 3.5.2. and doesn' t install !

However on 3.6. and 3.7. it goes well.

To keep the project alive I've started a blog site with download of latest patched version at www.optimizegoogle.com

Volenteers are welcome :).

Thank you very much bugblatter! The fix works and until the next time Google changes their code, I'll be content. Respect!

Bad code - Please ignore my previous post on fixes - sorry about that. For some reason, the special chars in the code got chewed up by this site. I re-posted it at google groups - http://groups.google.com/group/CustomizeGoogle/browse_thread/thread/d18fa8a191b5cfba

Some fixes: For firefox 3.5.1, here is what worked for me (if you're comfortable with manually editing the javascript.js file; see Phoglenix's 6/17/09 post for help):

* To fix direct image links:
Step 1. Go to (about) line 31 and replace the "var googFonts..." line with this one line (credit to Chris000001 on Google Groups):
var googFonts = selectAllNodes(document, document.body, "//div[@id='ImgContent']/table/tbody/tr/td[starts-with(@id, 'tDataText')]/div/div/cite");

Step 2. Go to (about) line 42 and replace the "var urlmatch..." line with this oen line (see Phoglenix's 6/17/09 post for credit):
var urlmatch = googLinks[x].href.match(/\&imgrefurl\=(.*?)\&usg=/);

* To fix streaming of search result pages when logged on to Google (already works when logged off):
(credit to floatingdays and kadusa - see floatingdays' 5/14/09 post for help)
1. Change -all- occurences of the string (use search&replace):
//li[@class='g']
to:
//li[@class='g' or @class='g w0']

Can anyone contact the author? This is the reason FF is so unique beyond other browsers. But this seems to be a reoccurring thing with developers losing track of their work by other life's events, laziness or ADD. Anyone posting a fix would be profusely thanked!

Like so many people have here said, this was a very good Extension but has been allowed to deteriorate increasingly. Google must have power over Firefox also, otherwise why hasn't FF stepped in and fixed this with over 9 million downloads?!?!

Most of the excellent features are broken :\ This used to be one of the essential addons.

Anyone figure out a fix for the images yet?

I added the fix posted earlier by Phoglenix and the extension worked beautifully!

Well Google must've made another change since then, because today its BORKED again! Grrr. Christ, author, please update this addon.

5 stars when it works.

Makes google not-evil by removing tracking and ads. |It also makes the various Google components more usable by adding streaming page loads and links to other search engines.

This add-on is a beautiful piece of programming code; It's tiny and very well-maintained. Kudos

It was good but needs an update.

A few options don't seem to work with 3.5

You may notice "smarterfox" the developer, made a post that his addon "smarterfox" does this exact same thing and more. His addon doesn't even remotely do what this addon does. It doesn't automatically change things to HTTPS, it doesn't remove ad area, etc. He's just spamming for more coverage for his addon.

The only downfall to this addon, is Firefox 3.5 claims its not supported (Tho the addon says its up to 3.6)
