This should be something that's built into FireFox (which I think I've mentioned before). I'd reviewed this in 2012 but it has worked so well and been annoyance free for so long I felt it was worth another mention. Also the fact that the programmer is still around is also worth mentioning since there are so many add-on's that show-up and then disappear.

I've been using StartupMaster for about 3 years and it has worked without problems through every version and update of FireFox I've installed alongside the dozens of other add-ons I've installed. That includes all of the beta versions of FireFox (Nightly) that were installed on my laptop over the past year.

StartupMaster has not been broken during the frequent code changes in FireFox where other add-on's have and that alone is worth a couple of stars. No app is always error free or without conflicts but in almost 3 years I've not had a single issue with it.

StartupMaster is not fancy, it does not have unnecessary features, and it works. For me, simple and easy always beats out complicated and easy to break.

Well I don't have multiple popups for master password, but I tried this out anyway and I like the feature where the main window is hidden.

However... the extension pentadactyl offers two ways of quitting firefox. If I quit using the ZZ shortcut, it turns on the "show my tabs from last time" setting before closing firefox, then the next time firefox starts, the setting is returned to "show homepage".

Somehow, StartupMaster is interfering with this, and my session is not being restored. I tried ticking the setting about loading extensions at a different point, but it didn't solve the issue.

Excellent extension!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.6.1-signed.1-signed).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

If it worked well in 1.5, it will also work in 1.6 if you uncheck the option "Delay password prompt until extensions are loaded" in the add-on preferences.
(There is some trade-off to take here. If I show the password prompt earlier during the startup sequence, it eliminates duplicate prompts more effectively for some users, but it also breaks some themes/translations/extensions for others. Since the latter issue seemed to affect more people, I've decided to make the old behaviour the default and offered the 1.5 one as a preference.)

Reply to fingerfox issue.
Thank you for fix the problem with fingerfox in development version. When delay option is active everything works fine.
Thanks for great extension.

Works to fix the multiple password prompts, but breaks theme (Noia 3.47). I'm on TB 24.0.1

This will hopefully be fixed in the next release. If you don't want to wait, you can check out the development version at http://htamas.ces.hu/startupmaster/temp/startupmaster-1.6a1.xpi.

The new 1.5 version break the nasa night launch theme. Please fix it.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.1-signed.1-signed).

If you mean that the initial password box is no longer themed, I can confirm this regression. It is due to the fact that StartupMaster is now activated earlier in the startup sequence, before themes are loaded. This was necessary to avoid some issues with password prompts appearing before StartupMaster's launch (when I obviously can't prevent them).
If there is popular demand for fixing theme support, I can add a preference whether to delay activation until themes have been loaded, but otherwise I'm kind of reluctant to do that since this is a security-related add-on and I prefer to keep its sources small and clean for easier auditing.
(By the way, version 1.3 will probably still work in the foreseeable future. Contact me if you need assistance in downgrading.)

Still working fine, but after update to 1.5 on TB 24.2.0, some translations to german are lost ("Posteingang" now ist "Inbox" etc.).

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.1-signed.1-signed).

Are you sure this is related to StartupMaster? It would be rather surprising as I never touch the translation strings. Does disabling/uninstalling StartupMaster restore the correct translations?
I suggest that you reply by e-mail, as the review system is not intended to be a support channel. You can find my address on the add-on page.

Works great doing what it's been made for. I personally use it with the option "Quit if the master password dialog is canceled" on, cause I don't want people to see my mail so easily. But as explained in the "Developer's Comments", I know it's not that secure !

After installing this add-on and restarting Thunderbird 17.0.7, Thunderbird's Add-ons Manager display of the installed extensions was missing most of the Add-ons' icons and descriptions! The buttons were missing their text until I moused-over each one.

Bonjour,

My problem is not solved with this extension:
- without StartupMaster the master password of Firefox is asked several times (I have to close up to twenty or thirty windows displayed for entering the password !!!!).
- with this extension it is the same plus one time before for the extension !!!

What is the solution for this problem ?

Pierre

Working ok for TB 17.0.5 now it prompts for master password a single time. Closing the prompt without entering the password does not allow access to email accounts or calendars. It does show local folders and its messages because the "Software Security Device" does not block this.

I use extensive Google service including gmailS, calendarS etc. Only this password manager could help me prevent duplicated input of password pop-up windows. However, after I upgrade to latest Thunderbird, it is no longer compatible, Hope the developer can continue develope this wonderful addon.

The password-request is equal. You only have to press the 'x' and everything is avaible.

Actually it's the Thunderbird's task to ask master-password only once, but because of some bugs it doesn't.
Your addon fixed this. Thank you.
