Dear Oleksandr,
Thanks a lot for updating this add-on to version 128
I don't see the button 'Contribute' for this add-on?

This user has 2 previous reviews of this add-on.

Hi thanks for the kind comment and ongoing support. This add-on has transferred maintainers several times throughout it's history so it is community volunteer supported on Github, the only contributions requested is code.

We have been lucky to receive contributions from the Thunderbird team from time to time for basic compatibility fixes, but there is plenty of work still required for quality of life feature requests.

This add on is just sooo good! I was constantly getting winmail.dat attachments instead of pdf files. Sometimes it was urgent for me to read the pdf files but of course it was impossible because they were corrupted so I had to keep asking people to re-send them. I read up about it ages ago and found it was caused by Microsoft rich text emails but not every time particularly from the same people. I asked the senders if they could change their settings but why would they just for me & in any event some people are just scared to change their settings. Then I thought, it is not just the sender's problem, it is also the receivers problem so I searched in google to see if other people with Thunderbird had any work arounds then found this extension. I downloaded it directly into Thunderbird and absolutely immediately I could go back and I could already see all the emails that previously had winmail.dat files now had the proper pdf document plus a couple of sundry files with the junk corruption in them nicely locked away. This is just so fantastic and has now saved me having to write back to the sender to see if the next time I would be lucky enough to get an uncorrupted file and for them to have to send it again. Really good extension... an absolute must! So why does T'Bird not have it written into its software already? But thanks for it, it is great.

It works! But didn't opens files with spaces in file names (Ubuntu 22.04 // Thunderbird 115.9.0 64 bit // LookOut 6.2).
Here stderr output when trying to open a file with spaces in a file name:
console.error: "AttachmentInfo.open: file - file:///tmp/\u0421 \u043D \u043E \u0410 \u2116 4-012 \u043E\u0442 19 \u0430 2024 \u0433.pdf, [Exception... \"Component returned failure code: 0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) [nsIMIMEInfo.launchWithFile]\" nsresult: \"0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)\" location: \"JS frame :: resource:///modules/AttachmentInfo.sys.mjs :: _openFile :: line 425\" data: no]"

There is workaround:
1) Open mail in thunderbird.
2) Open /tmp in file manager. Here you can open attached files or copy it to other location (e.g. ~/Downloads).

*BUG* (The pipe)

Hi Oleksandr & Dugite-Code,

lookout+ generates bugs in filtaquilla extension.

it turns the "Sender:" argument into "From:"
Personally, i prefer from, cause it's how it's presented
in the mime field, but the major bug, that appears in
filtaquilla which requires a fix, is that all my filtaquilla based
regex filters in thunderbird, now only work if i add
a pipe symbol (vertical line) at the end of
my regular expressions.

Please fix that.

Also stated by Filtaquilla's coder:

да, эта штука помогла, преобразовала winmail.dat в нормальные вложенные файлы, раньше приходилось использовать сторонний софт, сейчас стало намного удобнее.

LookOut works on Thunderbird 115.7.0 running on MacOS 14.3 (Sonama). It decode winmail.dat in two files; "body_part_o.rtf" and a second one "Untitled_Attachment". You need to assign an application to the second one to read it.

Latest version runs fine with thunderbird 115.4.1. I installed it and afterwards the winmail.dat was shown with the correct layout and attachements.

issues with the new TB 115.3.3 (64 bits). Some emails do not show the file enclosed. I remove the addons and now the file enclosed is showing.

I am unable to reproduce any issues. Please try toggling the "Remove Winmail.dat" option in the Lookout options dialogue. As to not decoding the Winmail.dat please open an issue on the project Github page and we'll try hunt down the issue.

My sister uses Microsoft Outlook for her email; I use Thunderbird. Whenever she would send me an email with an attachment, it came to me as "winmail.dat", a useless item that I couldn't read. She tried fixing it on her end, but to no avail.

I found out about Lookout by reading a Mozilla help article, so I installed Lookout Fix Version 5.4 directly into Thunderbird as an add-on. (I am currently running Linux Mint 20.1, Xfce 64-bit, with Thunderbird version 102.15.1 64-bit.) This instantly solved the problem! No configuration was necessary! I was immediately able to read an email attachment that she sent to me.

Thanks a million for providing such most convenient solution to the Winmail.dat problem!!
Immediately after installation of the extension the original attachments became visible, like it always used to be.

I cannot manage to understand what this add-on is meant for... Think more about non-geek users... Explain more please.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (5.3).

This add-on reads the winmail.dat attachment file that Microsoft email servers might send if they have been miss-configured. The winmail.dat is a proprietary Microsoft email format.

Edit: I have updated the description and hope it is clearer now.
